The buffers tab control is Andy Piper's personal preference; nobody's ever done anything systematic (well, I consed up a demo package, see http://turnbull.sk.tsukuba.ac.jp/Tools/XEmacs/buffers-tab-extensions.tar.gz, but I don't even use it myself).
