is again browsable.
I didn't realize (although I should have) that 'us.xemacs.org' wasn't
the URL of the US update site. 'ftp.us.xemacs.org' does resolve and is
correctly in the list 'package-get-download-sites'. Thanks for the
pointer.

The US main site has a configuration problem with proftpd, I don't
think it works with passive FTP at the moment. I'll try reporting it
again.

"us.xemacs.org" won't resolve, it should be
ftp.us.xemacs.org:
ftp.us.xemacs.org is an alias for
mirrors.ibiblio.org.
mirrors.ibiblio.org has address 152.46.7.65
In current sources (lisp/package-get.el) the display name is indeed
"us.xemacs.org", but the actually host name used in
"ftp.us.xemacs.org". What does
M-x (assoc "US (us.xemacs.org)" package-get-download-sites) RET
have to say for you?

www.xemacs.org and it does not repond to a ping.
I have no problem browsing
www.xemacs.org. I don't know what's with
the ping, I don't get a response either, but many sites disable ICMP
echo protocol (for example, my university does, so I have to log in
somewhere else even to try ping). I think this is stupid, myself, but
....
I'll talk to ibiblio, but "we're all volunteers here" (ibiblio is
shorter of resources than most, from talk I've heard on other lists).
