Like Vin, I'm unable to reproduce. But:
(xemacs-base :version 1.61 :type regular)
compile.el lives in xemacs-base, and your version is pretty old (the
current stable version is 1.71, and 1.75 is in pre-releases). Could you
try upgrading your packages and see if that helps?
