Not currently. There has been discussion of changing the Lisp engine
in XEmacs -- see eg

puts up hand to help if perl gets used in this process
have had quite a bit of perl experience
and regex is something i use a lot
-- but there is no currently active effort AFAIK.
who is in charge of it anyone know ??
