I'm not sure if this is related, but what I'm seeing (on RH 7.1) is long
pauses when anything is done that would cause XEmacs to indicate an error
to the user. If I try to go up when I'm at the top of the buffer, it
pauses, beeps at me, then returns control. I also see a long pause when I
am searching (C-s) and I search past the last occurrence.
