It's marginally functional. I use pretty much the same configure options on my Ubuntu machine as I do on my mac. It pretty much works. I do have more font issues on Ubuntu than Mac, but that's mostly solved using Aidan's font-setting code. There are some display issues but they mostly go away once I resize the window slightly.
