I read the Emacs vs XEmacs and I have an question that I am curious
Emacs is based on FSF emacs19 which is gpl, doesnt that make XEmacs GPL?
I have this question since Stallman is ranting about that emacs developer
cant use code that is in XEmacs for emacs.
XEmacs is GPLd, richard's problem is that the FSF does not own the
copyright, so would not be able to defend a combined work in court. For
some code in XEmacs, the author is either unknown, or they are (or their
employer is) unwilling to assign copyright to the FSF,
This is a very good argument against having XEmacs simply 'supplant' Emacs
as 'the' implementation. But I think richard could use a lot more code
than he does. It just isn't worth the trouble arguing about it anymore. :)
