O.K. That's one hurdle. I've thought about this some more and
remembered the introduction of overlay emulation. We have had
plenty of difficulties with emulation and feature checking before
-- remember the overlay problems from last Spring?
How does it work if you also use mic-paren and eldoc (to name two
packages that use timers but shouldn't use them in XEmacs)?
I don't normally use those, but after I loaded them, there were problems.
I hacked on autorevert.el to use itimers if available, and its much more
consistent. It hasn't had heavy testing, but it hasn't broken yet where the
original broke almost immediately.
