Are you sure it not simply the debugging code in 21.2 slowing
things down?
i'll try to build without debugging code
The customize code was changed heavily in 21.2 (theme support) but
it should not be much slower.
maybe it's only a bit slower, but in italy we say "e' una goccia
che fa traboccare il vaso" :-)
