Sure. But Emacs doesn't, apart from these two:
emacs-major-version The major version of XEmacs (or Emacs)
emacs-minor-version The minor version of XEmacs (or Emacs)
Before *rewriting* inversion.el for XEmacs, I thought that a less
invasive modification to support current XEmacs would be the better
