[Bug: 21.5-b27] Frame weirdness leading to crash

Dear Bug Team!
While using VM, I've been seeing XEmacs exit because it believes that
the last frame on the last console was deleted. This is visibly not
true.:-) Haven't been able to track it down, but today I observed a
new symptom, an apparent infloop while exiting. Here's the backtrace

about obsolete packages

Hi !
Attached below is a extract from a conversation with David Katrup. I think we
have a real problem with packages that we continue to distribute in an
obsolete and unmaintained state.
I think we should remove these packages alltogether. They are obviously a
nuisance for the upstream guys, they mislead _our_ users because they might
think that they get up-to-date stuff (I've been bitten by this ;-).
I'd like to hear other people's opinion though.

Here's the backtrace:
Using ediff-vers.el instead of ediff-vers.elc is a good workaround for
me for now.
This is a macro miscompile which should go away once
unsupported/scop/vc/ replaces xemacs-package/vc and ediff-vers.el does
(require 'vc-hooks).
ediff/Makefile should probably add vc to REQUIRES as well (even
pcs-cvs is there).
Ville, isn't unsupported/scop/vc/ getting close to replace
xemacs-package/vc ?
I have been using it for a while too.

EBCDIC dates from before ISO 2022, and the writers of the latter standard
ignored it, and its extensions. KOI8-R as an eight-bit standard dates from

The Soviet conspiracy against GHE WITH UPTURN, and its resulting exclusion
from ISO-8859-5 was indeed the problem. The patch below, which I’ve just
committed, allows you to input that character, but display won’t work until
the other patch I mentioned that uses Unicode fonts gets
committed. Hopefully tomorrow.

Agreed. But Andriy’s not from East Asia, and only East Asia cares about
those standards, especially ISO 2022. Non-ISO 2022 Cyrillic-alphabet and
Roman-alphabet standards are mundane, and useful software in these regions
needs to be able to deal with them.

I was being pessimistic; as the patch in question currently stands, its
behaviour is not any worse than what’s in the source tree. I intend
committing it tomorrow, after some further confirmation that its defaults
are okay.

My committed support for the Russian-C-x problem understanding of the US

In XEmacs,
(message "hello\nyes")
displays "hello" in the echo area. In Emacs, you see both lines.
Does XEmacs support multi-line messages by twiddling a variable of
some kind? I've looked around, but haven't found anything.
