In a current 21.5 -debug build, I'm seeing the following failure when
running the c-tests.el test from the test suite:

[Bug: 21.4.15] list-fonts doesn't list all fonts

Dear Bug Team!
Running xemacs 21.4.15 on a gentoo system, (list-fonts "*") only
returns 5000 fonts, although on my system XListFonts returns 12836
fonts. The result is that when I am using a font that doesn't happen
to be in the first 5000 according to whatever bizarre order X uses, if
I go to the Options menu and click on Font, I get a greyed out "Cannot
parse current font" (which is wrong: the font was parsed fine, it just
wasn't found in the cache).
This is because in src/objects-x.c, we find:

Could 5000 be replaced with a number that is unbounded for a somewhat
larger value of infinity? (I replaced it with 32768 and recompiled,
and the problem went away). Also, it would be nice if when this limit
is exceeded a more useful error message was given (since it took me a
couple of hours to track this down).

Difference between "xemacs" cygwin package and download from xemacs.org

I'm going to be setting up a new box soon, including a fresh Cygwin and
Xemacs installation. I noticed recently that the Cygwin installer now
has a set of xemacs packages. What is the difference between the xemacs
package installer in Cygwin and the Cgywin/Xemacs installer I can
download from xemacs.org? I currently have 21.4.13 installed, and I see
the "stable" branch is on 21.4.17. Is that what the cygwin install
package will install?

Dear Bug Team!
I'm moving my IBM T42p from 5.3BETA4 to 6.0 STABLE
I've built all the xorg, gnome2, and xemacs stuff from ports
portsnap'ed a couple of days ago w/ BATCH=1.
I'm running a GENERIC kernel that was build from today's STABLE
sources.
I've created a new user w/ the default .files, using tcsh, and no
emacs/xemacs configuration files, so it's unlikely to be anything in
my personal configuration (?).
The X server is running w/out any configuration file.
Whenever I type a bit of text into xemacs and "kill" it (e.g. move to
the beginning of the line hit control-k), I get a pair of messages in
the xterm window from which I started xemacs:
X Error of failed request: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)
Major opcode of failed request: 18 (X_ChangeProperty)
Resource id in failed request: 0xe006b8
Serial number of failed request: 20223
Current serial number in output stream: 20225
X Error of failed request: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)

It only happens when nautilus is running.
xlsclient -la tells me that nautilus has a window who's id is close
to the resource id of the failed requests, but I don't know how those
id's are generated:

'Sometimes' (I can't consistently repeat it), stopping nautilus,
cutting something in xemacs, then starting nautilus will generate the
pair of messages.
I tried to get some feedback a while back about a similar problem that
also involved ssh, here's a pointer to the start of that thread:

I never really resolved it then, just stopped running nautilus (sadly
it seems to be responsible for setting the background...).
I get occasional mail from folks who see my earlier post, so I don't
think I'm the only person seeing this.
Anyone have any thoughts?
I'd appreciate any leads, hints, pointers, me-too's, works-for-me's,
etc....

Thanks, fcix _was_ easy to install. I am still having trouble getting it to
send input to XEmacs, though; tomorrow I’ll try messing with its X11
configuration further. I should be able to type Ctrl+space ding1 and get

According to <http://www.xemacs.org/Documentation/packageGuide.html>,
"In addition to the system wide packages, each user can have his own
packages installed in ~/.xemacs (Note that this will most likely
change to ~/.xemacs/packages in the near future)." However, the
packages.el in XEmacs 21.5.18 seems to search packages in ~/.xemacs/
xemacs-packages.

Upcoming CC Mode 5.31: What should I do for XEmacs?

Hi, XEmacs!
A new version of CC Mode, version 5.31, will be released VERY soon -
today or tomorrow.
I'm doing this release rather than Martin, partly because Martin's very
busy with things outside Emacs at the moment, and partly because I want
to do it. :-)
I've already checked the XEmacs CVS archive (by downloading it from
<http://ftp.xemacs.org/pub/xemacs/packages/cc-mode-1.45-pkg.tar>), and it
seems XEmacs has made no changes to the CC Mode sources since version
5.30.10 was released.
So, what should I do? Should I commit the new sources myself (in which
case, please supply me with write access and a URL containing
instructions), or is there a liaison person who looks after this (in
which case, sir or madam, identify yourself!), or should I post the
patches to <xemacs-patches(a)xemacs.org>?
If "RTFM" springs to mind, then please point me at the appropriate "M".
I have read <http://www.xemacs.org/Develop/>. Also, please cut me a
little slack - I've not done a release before.
Is there anything else I should know?

When I turn on error checking and build on Cygwin with this patch applied, I
(still) get lots of unresolved externals in the modules, mostly functions named
error_check_*. I've added those symbols xemacs.def.in.in and generated a new
patch. With the modified xemacs.def.in.in, I'm able to build on Cygwin with
both error checking enabled and disabled.
I have no idea whether or not this is the right thing to do, but it works for
Cygwin.

I've checked out the latest cvs code, and built with:
./configure --with-mule --with-debug && make
But every chinese character that I input goes into the minibuffer
instead of the buffer, and caused a "xxxx not defined" error
message. There's no problem while inputing english.
