Nope, still doesn't make the mouse wheel work. I tried entering these
in the *scratch* buffer and using M-x eval-last-sexp after each; I
have also put them in c:\.xemacs\init.el (which did not exist before
although custom.el did exist in that place). The mouse wheel does
nothing, just as before.
Doesn't the mwheel package simply respond to button4 or button5 events
from the X server? So it will help you if your XEmacs beeps and says
'button4 not defined', but when XEmacs is completely insensible to
mouse wheel events mwheel can't help. Something lower-level and more
Windows-specific is needed, I think.

Dear Bug Team!
Using the Windows binary release (Net Installer), my mouse wheel does
nothing when I move the mouse pointer to point at the middle of a
buffer and rotate the wheel. It doesn't even beep or say 'xxx not
defined'. Expected behaviour is to scroll the buffer up and down, if
scrolling would be possible with C-v and M-v.
The mouse wheel works correctly in most other Windows apps.
I guess this is technically a feature request, not a bug, but it is a
commonly expected feature in Windows programs.

build/installation problems for XEmacs 21.4.13 on Irix 6.5.19m with GNU make 3.80

I have recently downloaded the source for XEmacs 21.4.13 and tried to
compile it on our SGI. I am having core dumps on compilation of the code.
OS: Irix 6.5.19m
gmake: 3.80
gcc: 3.2.2
I did the configure and the gmake as myself, with no root priveleges.
At the suggestion of Alan Turnbull, I have tried this build two different
ways.
The results files mentioned below will come to you in seperate emails,
because of some system configuration peculiarities here making it really
difficult to get them from that machine to this one.
The first way is with a default ./configure (results in the file
configure.results.full; make results are in gmake.results.full.configure).
The second way was with
"./configure --with-dialogs=no --with-widgets=no --pdump" (files
configure.results.nodialogorwidget and
gmake.results.nodialogsorwidgetsconfigure).
In both cases, there was a segfault just after the message was printed about
testing for Lisp shadows.
The output claimed that there were core files, but I don't see them.
We do have XEmacs 21.4.3 installed, which we obtained yesterday from the SGI
website, precompiled. That software does work, but it's a little older than
what I want.
Any ideas?

Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug:
After loading pcvs.el, the variable global-font-lock-mode is for
Emacs defined in pcvs-info.el (shown by C-h v
global-font-lock-mode RET in the buffer *Help*). In *Help*
however, it cannot find the definition in pcvs-info.el (by
clicking on "Defined in `pcvs-info'." at the end of the buffer):

Originally it came from loaddefs.el (and from font-lock.el).
The error message is confusing because of two reasons:
- there _is_ a definition in pcvs-info.el
- the real definition is in loaddefs.el (and coming from font-lock.el).
Given the boundp() test on global-font-lock-mode, I don't see why
defvar() is still necessary. Perhaps for compilation, but then
(eval-when-compile (require 'font-lock-mode))
would solve that. The variable would only be defined once, and then
it would be found properly from *Help*.
(Probably the same is true for font-lock-auto-fontify, but that's
XEmacs.)

Dear Bug Team!
I installed a prebuilt binary of XEmacs for Windows using the Net
Installer (linked from the xemacs.org site) and installed all
packages. I can start M-x shell to create a shell buffer running the
Windows command prompt cmd.exe. In that buffer pressing Tab normally
completes a filename. But this does not work when the directory name
before Tab contains spaces.
To reproduce:
- Install XEmacs in c:\program files\xemacs
- Start XEmacs
- M-x shell
- c : RET
- c d \ RET
- (Prompt now says 'C:\>'.)
- c d SPC p r o TAB
- (Filename completes to 'program Files\'.)
- RET
- (Prompt now says 'C:\Program Files>'.)
- c d SPC x e m TAB
- (Status line says 'No completions of xem'.)
Expected behaviour: 'xem' would be completed to 'xemacs\' since the
directory c:\program files\xemacs exists.
Tab completion seems to work as normal inside directories which do not
have spaces in their names.
A similar completion problem happens outside shell buffers, when
trying to visit a file with C-x C-f. I can tab-complete successfully
only inside directories which do not have spaces in the name.

Andy, could you take a look at this? I advised c.e.x that "the widget
guy" is busy, but since people _will_ build with Motif :-( we oughtta
try to fix/work-around this.
Several people have reported similar problems, I believe they are all
recent Solaris builds.
