that are often given as hints in newsgroups using `C-x C-e' (after the
closing brace) because the argument of `info' must be a filename only:

I'm pretty sure that this was working a few days ago, but it's
possible that when I thought I was testing stuff on 21.5 I could have
been in 21.4 and not realised. :-)
With XEmacs 21.4.12, if you:
xemacs -batch -no-autoloads -eval '(princ emacs-version)'
You'll get something like:
21.4 (patch 12) "Portable Code" XEmacs Lucid
But do the same thing with 21.5 and you get squat.
Anybody got any clues as to how I can debug this seeing as though it
is only happening in -batch and doesn't seem to be tripping any errors
or signals?

Problem in running CVS XEmacs on W2K

Hello,
I got the CVS source and built on W2K using MSVC 6.0. The build went
fine and I did an install (nmake -f xemacs.mak install). The files got
installed (my install dir,D:/GNU/xemacs and the folder in which
xemacs.exe is in PATH - I get xemacs.exe in the PATH).
The XEmacs version I have:
XEmacs 21.5 (beta11) "cabbage" [Lucid] (i586-pc-win32) of Thu Apr 17
2003
When I run XEmacs from the "xemacs/nt" folder in the build folder, it
works fine.
If I got to any other folder and run xemacs, I get the following error in
a console:
WARNING:
Couldn't find an obvious default for the root of the
XEmacs hierarchy.
WARNING:
Couldn't find obvious defaults for:
doc-directory
data-directory
exec-directory
lisp-directory
Perhaps some directories don't exist, or the XEmacs executable,
d:\GNU\xemacs\i586-pc-win32\xemacs.exe
is in a strange place?
I do not know what the problem is?
When I use the beta from
"http://ftp.xemacs.org/beta/xemacs-21.5.11.tar.gz" and build as above,
everything works fine when invoked from any folder.

But on win32, the path-list returned has '\\' as path separator. So that
just can't match. Possible fix attached.
Other related questions:
- what is the status of 'mule' packages wrt to 21.5+Mule? I guess
mule-ucs and mule-base packages are not needed anymore (integrated). But
what about the others (locale, latin-unity ...) and what about their
location? Shouldn't they move into xemacs-packages/ in 21.5 since Mule
is considered to be the default?

This is Mike's stuff. Mike, the following weak list tests in
tests/automated/symbol-tests.el fail with KKCC but pass without KKCC.
Testing /playpen/Projects/XEmacs/21.5/tests/automated/symbol-tests.el...

symbol-tests.el: 244 of 246 tests successful (99%).
These are both from the first call to `check-weak-list-unique', once
