forward-word command cancels the mark

I am not sure if this is the right mailing list to use, but it's the only one I see that actually has follow-ups for the posts.
I would like to start a mark (ctrl-space) then move forward word by word (forward-word) and keep my mark active. However, in xemacs, this doesn't work, my mark is cancelled as soon as I execute forward-word.
I am using the xemacs 21.4 port for Windows. I have recently switched from emacs to xemacs. I have searched extensively online for this answer and cant find it.

Dear Bug Team!
I tried to build xemacs-21.4.8 unde hpux-10.20 ona a PA risk
(I had a disk failure, and could not use the olde xemacs I had
there), and ran into the following problems:
configure generated Makefiles with huge chunks of whitespace and
a few ^L-s, and then eithr gnu-make or the hp-ux make gave lots of
syntax error messages.
I edited the files by hand, removed the white space and did the
makes in each subdirectory -- which gave me a working xemacs.
Has anyone else reported similar behavior? I presume that
the streaming editor used to generate the Makefiles bad, so I
installed a new gcc, and many other pieces of software
(binutils, xpm, libpng etc), but
finally, the compilation only worked with the hp-ux cc.
I am sending this bug-report after copying the xemacs-packages from my
Macintosh powerbook and installing them.
If you are interested, I can also attach one of the generated makefiles.
BTW -- after installing xpm and libpng (from the xemacs aux directory, configure still gives the
warnings about xpm and png.

Hi!
Sorry for bothing you ...
I have built the above with gcc 3.0.4 on my Linux with kernel 2.4.18
ang glibc 2.2.5.
Every now and then, mostly when both gdbsrc and VM are active, all
versions of 21.4.* that I have tried tend to "freeze" or simply to
exit.
I would like to help track the problem.
What else can I do except setting all three "Debug on ..." options ??

Dear Bug Team!
I gunzipped /usr/share/info, and info worked fine; however, on
exiting the gtk version crashed with a segfault (no core, no
trace). bugs-buddy offered to send a bug-report to GNOME, but with
no relevant information.
Will try same in the no-gtk version.
Please let me know if you don't want to hear about this any more ;-)

Hi Gang!
Well, the first release is out the door. It's gonna take a few more
of those before that becomes 2nd nature, so please bear with me. I'm
sure I'm going to make some mistakes. :-)
The hardest thing I found with doing the release was writing the
CHANGES-Beta file. From now on I am going to try to keep it up to
date as the patches go in. If anyone wants to include a CHANGES-Beta
entry with their submitted patches, that would be fantastic. But
please, don't feel obligated to do that.
Other Points and Thoughts:

Build Reports:
-------------
I'm going to try to keep a database of the submitted build reports to
see what kinds of invaluable information we can learn. Is there
anyone who could set up a PostgreSQL database to do this for me?
I'd like to encourage you all to send in a build report _every_ time
you build XEmacs. The more data I can gather the better the quality
of the information that can be gathered from that data.
Patches:
-------
I'll do my best to review as much as I can but if you read "Steve's
TODO list" on -design you'll understand that I'm going to be pretty
busy.
Bug Reports:
-----------
I want to keep on top of these. My goal here is to make sure that no
bug reports get forgotten and that they are all dealt with.
Release Frequency:
-----------------
I've seen and heard promises of weekly or fortnightly releases from
previous XBRM's. I'm not sure that I want to make such a promise.
Besides, if I don't promise the world you won't be disappointed. :-)
What I will say is that there will probably be more releases than
we've had recently.
Also, I want to co-ordinate with the "Big Players" so I can put out
releases just prior and just after major changes. Our current "Big
Players" would be: Ben Wing, Mike Sperber, Andy Piper, and Jerry
James.
If you guys could give me a quick heads up prior to big changes I'll
do my best to get a release out before the change. And shortly
afterwards so people can test it.
Snapshot Releases:

Do we want them? I could probably set up a script to run from cron on
my account on Tux to do a cvs up, then build a tarball each night. I
won't do this unless people think it'd be a good idea.
Feedback:
--------
I want it! The good, the bad, and the ugly. If you think I'm doing a
terrible job, tell me. I'm an Aussie and I guarantee that you can't
offend me, so don't hold back. Of course, I'd like to hear good
things too. :-)

Dear Bug Team!
I just compiled and installed xemacs-21.4.8. Everything went well (I
have done this before), and I've been using xemacs a lot since I
installed it (today).
However, when I exit xemacs (using Ctrl-X Ctrl-C), xemacs exits with a
crash about 50% of the time.
The crash message starts with:
Fatal error (10). [or sometimes (11)]
And ends with:

Basically the way you did it...

cvs add file1 file2 ...filen
M-x patcher-mail RET project RET subject RET
