Problems with building ecb package

Hi,
The html target is invoked during "make all" of the ecb package. This
tries to install html files in the XEMACS_STAGING-folder which I
suspect is wrong.

I always do "make autoloads all" as ordinary user an "make install" as
root. This setup finds the problem since during "make all" the
ordinary user hasn't got the rights to do things in the
XEMACS_STAGING-folder.
Unfortunately only one user executes the package smoketest so this
problem isn't spotted there. That users has rights to created files in
XEMACS_STAGING-folder so it isn't noticed.
Maybe I should add to the smoketest a check that the
XEMACS_STAGING-folder hasn't been created before the "make install"
phase begins since "make all" shouldn't do anything with the install
folders should it?

Relative to XEmacs 21.4.10 "Military Intelligence", "Native Windows TTY
Support"
o fixes a deadlock in Xt timers that manifests in gdb-mode;
o fixes some crashes on glibc 2.3 systems (including 2.2.9x) by
disabling mmap in Doug Lea malloc;
o fixes other build and runtime crashes by defaulting to use of
the portable dumper on Linux.
Disabling mmap may cause an increase in memory usage, but this depends
on usage patterns and in general should rarely be large. If you don't
like the portable dumper, you can use ./configure --pdump=no [...].
There are a few cosmetic and documentation changes.
The first release in this series, XEmacs 21.4.0 "Solid Vapor",
contained a large number of improvements and extensions to the current
stable version, XEmacs 21.1.14. For more information about the

The usual "no warranty" disclaimer (see etc/WARRANTY, sections 10 and
11) applies. However, we are now experimenting with a level of
stability intermediate between "beta" and "stable", dubbed "gamma".
At this point all the developers and our beta testers trust the 21.4
code base with all their editing needs. Many have found it
sufficiently stable that they've moved on to the development branch
again in search of some excitement.
After several months of testing, XEmacs 21.4.11 has been shown
sufficiently stable to be recommended to all users. However, there
still remain a few outstanding problems that must be fixed before we
retire 21.1.

If you already have a 21.4.10 source tree, a patchkit is available in
xemacs-21.4.10-21.4.11rc1.patch.gz. This does not update .elcs or .infos,
they will be rebuilt when you make XEmacs. If you have an earlier
version, you can repeatedly apply patchkits.

Windows branch and installers:
The Windows branch continues to have a few changes not yet included in
the mainline. It is preferred to the mainline for Windows users.
Anonymous (pserver) CVS:
Anonymous CVS is available. We are very grateful to the staff at our
host, SunSITE.dk, for a lot of help and quick reponse to all our
requests.
If you haven't used XEmacs CVS recently, we moved the repository
before the 21.4.6 release. The repository structure is the same as
before, so it should be possible to reuse an existing checked-out CVS
tree.
Take care that your Root is set correctly to
CVSROOT=:pserver:cvs＠cvs.xemacs.org:/pack/xemacscvs
On platforms with a Bourne shell and find available, something like
for r in `find . -name Root`; do echo $CVSROOT > $r; done
will convert your entire tree.
Tags are also the same; to update to release 21.4.11, use the release
tag "r21-4-11". To set a sticky tag which will always update to the
current release, use the branch tag "release-21-4".

allow you to properly implement things like nested profile runs,

Remove profile-call-count-results. Call counts and now an
integral part of the profiling info, and the only real benefit
of this function (sort by call-count) is an argument or C-u to

function-menu.el patch for better perl support

Hi,
I made a small addition to func-menu.el in perl mode. With the patch
it also scans for package declarations and appends the current
package name to the sub name. Eg: if you have a perl file:
package Foo;
sub foo {}
package Bar;
sub foo {}
It will show Foo::foo and Bar::foo in the menu. Hope

Hello,
Just installed mule-enabled 21.5.9 on Solaris 8 and noticed
that no longer can input japanese via xim. Instead of valid
characters the garbage is input, that seems to be raw euc-jp
characters as set my locale. The comment in event-Xt.c suggest
using composed-input-coding-system variable to determine
coding system for convertion. After initializing this variable
to coding system for current locale in startup file,
everything seems to work perfectly. No side efects noticed
yet. Not sure how conceptual this change is, anyway patch follows.

Dear Bug Team,
When I edit this short elf executable I have here using xemacs hexl
mode, it doesn't just edit what I want it to edit. What I do is,
(1) open up the binary using M-x hexl-find-file RET /tmp/a.out RET
(2) Click on the 'd' in 'd9' in the last column of hex bytes, 4th line
(3) use M-C-x dd RET to change d9 to dd
(4) save the buffer with C-x s
The result is not what I thought should have happened. What I thought
should have happened is the following string of bytes
... 0f 7e 01 d9 01 ... should be changed to ... 0f 7e 01 dd 01 ...
(This is what I get when I use GNU emacs 20.7 to do the same thing.)
What I get is: ... 0f 7e 01 d9 01 ... -> ... 7e 01 dd 01 ...
(basically, my change is made, but the 0f is also gone; the size
of the binary has gone from 477 bytes to 476.)
I used GNU od to verify it: od -Ax -tx1 a.out > a.lst, then edit
a.out with hexl-mode, then od again, then diff the two .lst files.

cygwin xemacs w/ X11?

I have downloaded 21.4.10 cygwin using netinstaller. If I telnet to
my windoze machine and try to start xemacs (setting DISPLAY to my
remote linux machine), nothing happens. The same test works fine with
cygwin's version of gnu emacs.
Any hints? Does the cygwin 21.4.10 binary lack X11 support?

W3 don't work correctly when browsing local HTML hierachy on Win32
machines; paths like "c:\something.html" are treated as relative, '/' is
prepended to them and so W3 tries to download such files via EFS. Here is a
small patch to correct this behaviour:

No veto, but WDYT, wouldn't this have been a good start for the
general-docs package? The (empty) dir has been around in CVS for some
time now...
