W3 don't work correctly when browsing local HTML hierachy on Win32 machines; paths like "c:\something.html" are treated as relative, '/' is prepended to them and so W3 tries to download such files via EFS. Here is a small patch to correct this behaviour: - Dmitry Bely

21.4.10: files.el 21 years, 5 months

(possibly duplicate sent message) 21.4.10 on attempting to update packages, warning message indicates that 'allow-remote-paths' is neither set nor defined function called from packages-ui.el to file-remote-p in files.el I think the problem is that previously "allow-remote-paths" was defined in Files.el, and it is no longer defined. Any more progress on OS X native Aqua XEmacs? 21 years, 5 months

I believe there are some readers of this mail list who were working on a native port of XEmacs to Mac OS X. There is currently (as of this week) an Aqua port of GNU Emacs (21.3.50.6). I wondered whether any of the folks working on the XEmacs port had looked at it or examined the source to see if any of it could help with porting XEmacs 21.5 to native Aqua OS X? One real advantage I have seen is that the native port uses about 50MB less of physical memory because XFree no longer needs to be loaded. The disadvantage is that it is not XEmacs--a rather large disadvantage. r. royar

Package smoketest failure 21 years, 5 months

Hi, The "all" target in the xemacs-devel/Makefile has recently been changed to "compile". This makes the smoketest, my version of it that is, to fail since it is based on the build sequence "autoloads all install". 21.4.10-mule codings problem, ~ appears 21 years, 5 months

Hello After years I tried again using Mule, since this way I can even read math symbols in mails, using the x-symbol package. However there is a annoying feature a latex buffer gets during the save-buffers-kill-emacs operation corrupted in such a way that all greek symbols like \alpha are then replaced by ~. According to Christoph in GNU emacs there is something like "safe encoding" a feature which is missing here. What can I do, it is really that I lose results of my editing. Thanks Uwe Brauer PS, I noticed then when compiled with--mule=yes there now no longer appears a Mule Entry in the tool bar, why?

Sorry to be barging on on the list like that, but Stephen chastised me on comp.emacs.xemacs for discussing specifiers there and told me that was a topic only suitable for this list. With his help, I managed to stick up an icon into the toolbar with the following code (which appears to work with XEmacs 21.4.8): (defvar preview-icon-toolbar-button (vector (list preview-icon) #'preview-at-point t "Preview on/off at point")) ;preview-icon is a glyph Then in the LaTeX-mode-hook, the following gets called (about which I happen to be entirely clueless). Displayed in the text, the transparent color is the text background color. Displayed in the toolbar, the transparent color is black instead of the toolbar color.
