Greetings,
During an attempt to test whether XEmacs 21.2-b43 would be improved
so much from 21.1.* that I could move from Emacs to it, I noticed
that when I click the show button of Dired No Confirm option in a
buffer generated with M-x customize-apropos RET dired RET, I get a
result shown in picture at
<URL:http://www.iki.fi/azure/var/bugreports/xemacs-customize.png>.
As you can see from the same picture, the old font underline
problem that I have reported earlier is still there. I.e. the
underline is at too high point. My system is Debian GNU/Linux
unstable x86 with XFree86 3.3.6, and I recall that the underline
problem is caused by a buggy font distributed with at least this
XFree86 version, but the fact is that I still have to use 3.3.6 for
some time and if XEmacs doesn't provide a work-around for this
problem, this is such a showstopper for me that I won't be using
XEmacs.

I was just playing around and I discovered that if I hold the shift
key down and hit the arrow keys, the mark is set and the region is
activated. In fact, it acts just like I hit 'C-spc' and then the
unshifted arrow keys. This seems like a fine thing to me. The
complete lack of documentation is what puzzles me: if I run
'describe-key' on 'Sh-up', I get the description for 'up'. (Actually,
if I hit 'C-h k', I get the prompt "Describe key: ". If I hit
'Sh-up', then I see "Sh-up" appear briefly in the minibuffer, and
*then* I get the description for the 'up' key.) The description for
'up' doesn't say anything about the behavior when the shift key is
held down.
Similarly, if I hit 'C-h b', there are no listings for the shifted
arrow keys.
So: should the function describe-key give a description for 'Sh-up'
(etc.)? Should the documentation for each arrow key say what happens
if you hold down the shift key? Should describe-bindings have
listings for the shifted arrow keys? (A cursory inspection of the
info pages doesn't help much, either; for instance, these shifted
arrow keystrokes are not given in the "Setting the Mark" node.)

XEmacs 21.1.13 for Windows

The XEmacs team are proud to announce the availability of a self installing
binary kit of XEmacs 21.1.13 for Microsoft Windows, native and Cygwin 1.1.x
The kit is located at ftp://ftp.xemacs.org/pub/xemacs/windows/setup.exe and
all the usual mirrors.
This release is different to other releases in that it is supplied through
a `net' installer which will download and install the components you select
over the internet. The installer is based on the cygwin installer. The
release supports binaries for both native Windows (95, 98, NT & W2K) and
for Cygwin 1.1.6 or greater as well as all the relevant XEmacs packages.

redisplay problems with them, but if you visit a long file, the font-lock
progress bar looks pretty sweet.

PCL-CVS and vc-resolve-conflicts

Hi,
I use XEmacs 21.1.6, with PCL-CVS R-2_9_9 (pkg v1.51) and VC 21.1 (pkg
v1.25) on Solaris 7.
As mentioned in [1] and [2], PCL-CVS expects VC to contain the
function "vc-resolve-conflicts"; the XEmacs version apparently does
not. When I try to perform merging from the *cvs* buffer (via
keystrokes "d E", which I discovered via web searching, 'cause the
XEmacs PCL-CVS info page is badly out of sync), pcl-cvs complains that
autoloading failed to locate "vc-resolve-conflicts".
Is anyone working on this and/or rewriting VC (as mentioned in one of
the threads starting at [1] and [2])? If not, does anyone know who I
can contact about the FSF version of VC?

Just to let you know, I updated my packages (using "Update installed packages") from xemacs.org last night. All went well, apart from the following error message :
"Package fsf-compat-1.08-pkg.tar.gz does not match md5 checksum"
This prevents the fsf-compat package from being updated.

1. After vc-register, xemacs does not reread the file and tag it as running
under RCS/CVS.
2. With three windows up (in different directories), vc-toggle-read-only an
RCS'd file. Make some changes, then vc-revert-buffer. File will be
reverted, but the edited file will not change in the directory. What's
worse/dangerous, a copy of the reverted version will appear in one of
the directories associated with the other windows.
This is with the latest rcs and cvs versions, xemacs 21.2.43, and the
2000-10-6 version of vc.el.

Updated setup.ini for Windows net installer

I have updated setup.ini to reflect the latest released XEmacs packages.
Mirror sites should be updated soon. This will fix problems people were
having with packages not being found.
A few people are having problems with the installer hanging during
downloads. I do not know why this is - and the code is identical to the
cygwin installer code, so something fishy is going on. I now have no time
left to debug any of this for a few weeks.
