Cool! Do you plan to work on it any more? If not, would you mind
making it available for me to hack on it some? I'm actually interested
in making voice recognition work on Linux, rather than Windows, by the
way.

great shape (i.e. it only performs very basic recognition and buffer
insertion (none of that understanding the english language stuff), but it's
good to serve as a prototype for connecting ViaVoice on Windows to XEmacs.
The only interesting bit that is necessary in the XEmacs source code is to
modify the Windows event loop (mswindows_wnd_proc, in event-msw.c) to add
something like this under the WM_COMMAND case:

SPEECH_CONNECT_ID is the constant that you send to the Speech API when you
initialize it. This SmDispatch function will call any of the proper
callbacks you've registered with the Speech API without having to modify the
XEmacs source more than necessary.

Last November, there was some talk of writing a voice recognition
module, using IBM's Via Voice as the recognition engine. Did anything
ever come of that?
If nobody else is working on it, I'll take a pass at it. I have read
the event handling code for XEmacs, so I'm not too worried about that
part of it. However, I don't know anything at all about the module
mechanism. Pointers to documentation would be greatly appreciated.

Viewing the pages with both Opera and IE, the text in the "sidebar cell"
is wrapped in an ugly fashion (see example1.gif).
I would recommened taking the text defined like:

yes this is supposed to be there. It states that the page has been
validated and by what means.
It might not always say "Conform". When you see "<strong>Not</strong>
conform" after a commit you made, you should consult the commit log
and fix the error you'll find in the log-file.
Those log-file will become less verbose in the future. Martin and I
have expressed that wish already.

How can this look like a bug?
Oh, now I get it: It's outside of the greyish background. Yes, it
doesn't look very beautiful.
Unfortunately it cannot be put under the "This page last mod ..." bit
easily because this is part of a genpage template, and not
art of the individual document.
You are requesting to hide the fact that the XEmacs Site is one of a
few striving to provide correct HTML?
The majority of users visiting the site with IE or Netspace (or even
W3) would miss the fact. Not too many people inspect the HTML source
code (although I always do).
Anyways, if other people share your view, I am open to make that
change, but not quite yet.
Any other comments/problems?

I've uploaded to ftp.xemacs.org/pub/xemacs/beta/experimental a number
of new packages for testing. Please test them and send your feedback.
Here's the summary of the changes
- gnus: Version 5.8.7, this is a major update!
- supercite: Bugfixes.
- xemacs-base: Fixes for compile.el, add-log.el and comint.el
- xemacs-devel: Enhancement for find-func
- edit-utils: Improved versions of func-menu and man, fixes for
user-init-directory in edit-toolbar and where-was-i-db.
- ispell: Bugfixes.
- speedbar new version 0.11.1.
- os-utils: Crypt.el handles .gz and tgz. now; new mchat version 2.1.
- cc-mode: Version 5.27.
- jde: Version 2.1.9 imported, this is a major update. JDE needs the
new speedbar and semantic versions.
- semantic: New package, needed by JDE.
- eicj: New package: ICQ for XEmacs on Linux
- pcl-cvs: Should work now with XEmacsen without Mule.
- prog-modes: New sql.el version, new file mode-compile version 2.27.
- sh-script: SYnch with FSF 20.7.
- auctex: Should work now with XEmacsen without Mule.
For details, I've appended a diff of the ChangeLog against the last
round.
*WARNING*: I haven't tested the packages on my own system at all but
will do so after uploading the packages (but only those that I use).
Use them at your own risk!

why (list-fontsets) always tell me
"No fontsets being used" while at the same
time xmacs could display japanese/chinese/traditional chinese/korean
very well. and the same question goes for (describe-fontset)
'cause "C-h a fontset" only gives the two.

This came up on the Coda list recently. I don't understand this stuff
and I don't run the OS, but I thought it should be mentioned in case
XEmacs might be vulnerable to the same race condition.
