As usual, people should be careful, when patching externally
maintained packages, to inform the package maintainer of the change. For
instance, I only noticed this by miracle:

What's up with the CVS sever?

When I cvs update in the xemacs-packages/mule directory
(at cvs.xemacs.org:/usr/CVSroot) I get after a while:
cvs server: Updating skk/etc
cvs [server aborted]: out of memory; can not allocate 2808685 bytes
or
U mule/skk/etc/ReadMe.English
cvs [server aborted]: can not reallocate 4194304 bytes
or
Terminated with signal 11.
It's been like this for the last 3 days (day and night).
Is there a remedy for this?

generic-printer-buffer calls lpr-region with incorrect argument

Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug:
Clicking on File->Print "buffer" from the menubar results in a
run-time error about lpr-region being called with the wrong number
of arguments.
lisp/printer.el calls lpr-buffer with "buf" instead of "b e". Either
printer.el is wrong or os-utils/lpr.el from the packages has become
incompatible.

Michael, you have the same problem I had.
Martin came to my rescue by suggesting to set following variable:
`$CVS_IGNORE_REMOTE_ROOT'
For CVS 1.10 and older, setting this variable prevents CVS from
overwriting the `CVS/Root' file when the `-d' global option is
specified. Later versions of CVS do not rewrite `CVS/Root', so
CVS_IGNORE_REMOTE_ROOT has no effect.
On Windows NT I set CVS_IGNORE_REMOTE_ROOT to 1 and it worked fine.

Sounds like a good plan to me... that's sorta the direction
I was trying to go with my code-change proposal, but I think
your solution is cleaner.
I am obviously not the best choice to make the code modifications...
I already revealed my glaring ignorance in that area.

Or...
we could argue that unsetting auto-save-list-file-prefix is a bad way
to disable the list autosaves in the first place. For one, it's
completely non-obvious from the name.
We could introduce a new variable named `inhibit-auto-save-session'
that would do exactly what its named implied. In addition to better
clarity, the advantage would be that the auto-save code could always
recover from a change of that variable in the middle of operation,
because changing it does not destroy any actual information.
For compatibility with the FSF and for sanity, we could also make
setting auto-save-list-file-prefix to nil have the same effect. The
warning would then not be necessary because you're not supposed to do
that anyway.

I am still way behind on my XEmacs stuff. Just when I though things
were a bit stabilized I had to rush of to the US to do on site work
at a customer.
I have forwarded it to work, I'll try looking at it from there.

First file release of xemacsweb

xemacsweb contains all sources for what you see when you visit
http://xemacs.sourceforge.net/
which is the XEmacs website hosted by SourceForge.
The purpose of this release is the learn how one is done.
Secondly, people without CVS access may download this file release and
submit patches generated as follows:
diff -u -r xemacsweb-1.00 xemacsweb-1.00-mywork
xemacsweb-1.00 is an unmodified copy of the file release tree,
xemacsweb-1.00-mywork is a copy of the former with local
modifications.
"make clean" should be performed in xemacsweb-1.00-mywork perform
producing the diff to avoid including differences in generated files.

Hmmh, that site is not up-to-date either.
The newest packages there are dated Aug 1999 while xemacs.org had the
latest package update today.
Your best choice is xemacs.org if that connection is not too slow from
where you are located.
