What does that patch to etags.el do? I've found that when I run a "make TAGS" in the glibc-2.0.7t sources, then try to use the XEmacs etags to search it, it doesn't work right.... I made a one line change to the GNU Emacs etags.el, and tried it, and it works very well. The XEmacs etags jumps to a different place when I do a `M-. printf'. The GNU Emacs etags goes where I think it should. I think we should upgrade our etags.el to the GNU version.

Not autosaving when SIGHUP?? 25 years, 6 months

I think that XEmacs 21.2 isn't autosaving when it's signalled. Will someone else please test this? I discovered it when an unmapped XEmacs' gnuserv died. With or without gpm, and with or without -unmapped, I get the same thing. Edit ~/blah, save it, edit some more, don't save, then send a sigHUP to XEmacs and make it exit. It says it autosaved, but when I start it up again and do `M-x recover-session', it doesn't work. "blah" wasn't autosaved as advertised, as far as I can tell. ? <offtopic> I began a more detailed bug report last night, then had a system lockup... I'd hibernated my laptop for the night, and turned it on this morning. All of the backed up cron jobs fired off at once, and rather than wait for the hour or more of thrashing, I power cycled the thing, and lost the bug report I'd started. Grrr. I fixed that; serialized all my cron scripts with a `source' include that uses the procmail lockfile program and a trap to cleanup the lockfile. That's what I learned today.

Unfortunately, way down the process, the build stops while it expects to find /bin/echo: ... /usr/local/src/XEMACS~1.65/lib-src/update-elc.sh: /bin/echo: not found So I copied echo.exe from /cygnus/cygwin-b20/h-i586-cygwin32/bin/ to my /bin and restarted to build. I will report the outcome. In the mean time, I have successfully built it with ms vc5.0; (there was an undefine in the tiff area, so I left it out and had no other problems). I am running it right now. Thanks for all your effort and time... Guido.

Since 21.0 works as is[1], I am leery about changing a major default like this at the last minute. As for 21.2, I don't want to see it released until dumping is gone. UCS conversion lisp package for 21.2.13 25 years, 6 months

I've uploaded two versions of the lisp support for UCS conversion to the packages directory on the FTP site: ftp://ftp.xemacs.org/pub/xemacs/packages/ucs-conv-1.0.tar.gz ftp://ftp.xemacs.org/pub/xemacs/packages/ucs-conv-1.01.tar.gz The 1.0 version is the same version being distributed on the Japanese FTP site. The 1.01 version has been repackaged and slightly modified. The file ucs-cjk.el is too big to bytecompile, so I broke it up into five pieces. It's not in its final form yet, so it will be awhile before it gets put into the XEmacs CVS tree. Because it is poison to 21.0 in its current form, I'm not adding it to the master package-index file yet.
