Odd color behavior with 21.0.63 25 years, 2 months

I was experimenting with fonts on my recently built 21.0.63 version of XEmacs and hit something very odd. The default background color on my display was off-white (#fafaf8f8f3f3). That setting does produce the desired background color on my screen when XEmacs starts (something that was not the case at one time), but it switches to grey75 (or something close) as soon as I change the selected font using the Options->Font menu. This only changes the background of the text windows and the mini-buffer, but leaves the xpms in the tool bar and the status line with the off-white. While this is not a serious problem, it is annoying and I can't believe it is desired behavior. I recall a long discussion of some problems relating to the default background color. Has this been fixed in 21.2? (Guess I may have to break down and build 21.2, although I'm not sure where I'll find the disk space.) Thanks, R. shrink-window-if-larger-than-buffer stopped working 25 years, 2 months

This bug report will be sent to the XEmacs Development Team, not to your local site managers!! Please write in English, because the XEmacs maintainers do not have translators to read other languages for them. In XEmacs 21.2 "Boreas" [Lucid] (i386-bong-linux, Mule) of Sun Feb 7 1999 on bong configured using `configure i386-bong-linux --debug=no --error-checking=none --memory-usage-stats=no '--cflags=-g -O4 -malign-jumps=2 -malign-loops=2 -malign-functions=2 -finline-functions' --with-mule=yes' Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug and the precise symptoms of the bug: I built and installed XEmacs 21.2.10, updated all installed packages (incl. removing some that seemed unimportant for me) and now shrink-window-if- larger-than-buffer doesn't work anymore. It doesn't produce an error message, calling it by M-x shrink-window-if-larger-than-buffer or C-x - simply has no action. This behaviour is reproducible here, even with -vanilla. Please let me know what further info I can provide, thanks! packages status: JDE, VM,W3 25 years, 2 months

I tried to install JDE and noticed that it needs speedbar.el. The current JDE is 2.1.4 (the CVS version is 2.1.1) and comes with speedbar. Shouldn't speedbar added to one of the packages? I also noticed that VM and W3 also have released newer versions than are in the CVS archive. Shouldn't these packages updated? 21.2-b9 delays frame's font change 25 years, 2 months

I don't know if the following behavior is a bug or feature, but... For years, I've been using the following bit of code, to emulate for me a very useful feature that used to exist in much older X implementations, the "active icon". The intended effect is merely that a full-size window has its font toggled with "nil2", so that it smallifies into a corner, to get out of the way. One of the frames was then completely covered by the xterm. I toggled again in the visible frame to bring them back up, and that frame opened...but the other frame did not. When I moved the xterm to expose part of the frame, only then did that frame "de-iconify". After seeing this once, I played with it for a while. The effect is seen even when part of the WM's (I use fvwm2) title bar or borders are exposed, but as soon as window content proper is exposed, then the font change in that frame takes place.
