================================================================ Dear Bug Team, the following strange bug has occurred on my system: 1) Observation: It appears that large text files are divided into blocks of 2^16=65536 bytes, when they are saved on a disk. 2) Fact: Storing some UTF8 characters (e.g. umlauts) requires two bytes. 3) Bug: If the first byte of such a character is the last byte of of a block (in other words, if a two byte character is stored in two different blocks of size 65536), then this character is replaced by EF BF BD = replacement character (3 bytes), so that the text file contains a corrupted character. If you're firmly wedded to 21.4, then you can use my Unicode-internal fork of it instead. This has served me well for the last decade, and has no data corruption bugs that I know of! Unfortunately, the 21.4 series doesn't compile with recent gccs, and I haven't yet got round to finding out the necessary changes. Has anybody compiled any XEmacs on a recent (5.4) gcc?

Hi all, When I look at the CCL program that writes out UTF-8, I'm convinced, so far, that the bug is somewhere in the CCL interpreter rather than in the elisp/ccl code. Aidan, when you say the unicode in 21.4 is buggy, what exactly do you mean? Are there more known bugs? Where can I see a list of them?
