I have not looked at the patch, but vetoing it on the principle that
the Great Font Unification will be impeded by this work is not
conducive to progress, in my opinion.
Anybody who is even *thinking* of fixing the font mess has to take into
consideration that the X world is heading in the Xft direction. Gtk2
is using it, and the writing is on the wall for XFree86 in general.
