No amount of C-l will make the tabs disappear for me. The way to debug this if you have time is to put a printf statement in each of x_map_subwindow and x_unmap_subwindow with the id. You should always get an x_map_subwindow last if the tabs are to be visible. If you can break on the x_unmap_subwindow that causes them to go away for good and send me a backtrace that might help. Although this gets tricky with multiple frames. I'm guessing it has something to do with expose events. Maybe even the ignore expose is being over-zealous....
