My impression is that the broken Emacs packaging scheme of Debian (which
tries sharing .el files among Emacsen, but places the .elc somewhere
else entirely) is likely to hit XEmacs even worse than it hits Emacs.
Good point. I remember separately packaged *emacs based programs failing to
build with XEmacs in pkgsrc, even when upstream actively supported the
latter.
