not a few minutes, anyway...
% gcc --version
gcc (Debian 4.8.1-7) 4.8.1
...
I configured and built XEmacs with the above gcc and it still fails
when evaluating the function test-chars in mule-tests

Hi, I'm turning to XEmacs list for help,
a SUSE user has reported this problem and I can perfectly reproduce it,
but I'm not 100% sure where the error is. the wnn (input method library)
returns an error, but I think Emacs should handle that better than
crashing.
Steps to reproduce (at least on an openSUSE system):
Install "fwnn"/freewnn, which contains a "jserver" app
Start jserver
Start xemacs
C-x RET C-\ japanese-egg-wnn
Type hoshi SPC
expected that this turns the Japanese characters |ほし| which show up,
into a Chinese character like 星
Here is the bug report:
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=830221
I attach the Backtrace and Stacktrace of the original reporter here for
convenience.
The Input method returns an error about a file that does not exist. If
creating the file manually, XEmacs does no langer crash (good!) but the
input method does not work either. Instead, it just shows
98:BAD ERRORNO!!!
I suppose this input method is just broken beyond repair? Does it work
for anyone else, including the step that turns Japanese syllable letters
into Chinese characters?
Take care,
Nei

But the Installation file you delivered said 4.7.3.
I'm not sure we can do much about that. It's not really your fault
since M-x report-xemacs-bug just uses M-x describe-installation. I'll
think about improving M-x report-xemacs-bug, but in the future please
try to remember to report what your system GCC is in case of a build
failure.

Heh. GCC always takes as long to shake out the bugs as Emacsen do. ;-)

Is the xemacs interactive-p equivalent to emacs call-interactively-p?
The docstrings seem to indicate that it is, except
call-interactively-p takes an optional arg.

Hi
I usually send my mail via smtpmail, gmails smtp server and the port 587
using starttls.
However now this port is blocked in the site I am currently and I am
forced to use the port 465 and
ssl not starttls (I checked that with thunderbird: port 465 + ssl is ok
465+starttls does not work and 587+starttls is blocked.)
Now the smtpmail xemacs ships seems not to deal with this situation,
however the smtpmail.el GNU emacs 24 ships has the variable
smtpmail-stream-type 'ssl
which can be set to ssl and
Which seems to be needed.
However the GNU emacs 24 smtpmail.el has a
lot of new functions unknown to xemacs.
So
- Did somebody successfully port the latest GNU emacs 24
smtpmail.el to Xemacs
- or did succeed to send via gmail smtp, port 465 and ssl in some
other way?
Thanks
Uwe Brauer
