I'm using VM version 8.0.12-devo-585 in xemacs-21.5.32. I have a single vm-spool-file set up, which is an imap server. When I am retrieving a large number of messages (for example, coming back from vacation) I am unable to do anything else for a long period of time, since XEmacs is insisting on keeping keyboard focus. I can click on other windows (e.g. web browser) and they respond, but it's impossible to *type* into any other window until VM is done retrieving the messages. Is there any way to change this behavior?

Thank you to the several people who have volunteered time for Summer of Code! I'm very comfortable with our staffing for GSoC.
Our GSoC page is at http://www.xemacs.org/Develop/GSoC.html, and the ideas page is linked from there. Of course what's there is rather biased to my interests, so more ideas would be /more/ than welcome!

Would the body of that mode be empty or would I have to set some
variables?

Adding it to XEmacs would probably be the best idea (from my
perspective, anyway). Most programming modes for GNU Emacs will be
deriving from prog-mode, so having it in XEmacs, too, would make keeping
them synchronized easier.

Except for one recent installation, I install without-mule and prefer to
keep it that way.
I wouldn't like to see that a bunch of packages that do not require mule
now drift towards requiring mule, because it would new be the default.
But maybe that won't happen in either case.
