They are let-bound to nil initially. The cond form should bind them to
whatever is appropriate, but that doesn't seem to be happening as the
call to narrow-region still sees them as "nil". What output was
produced by message?
Could you supply an example document and how to trigger the bug from
'xemacs -q -vanilla --eval '(add-to-list '"'"'load-path "./lisp")' -l org'?

I guess I spoke too soon. The version I built from latest Hg sources
has some issues. Most prominently, I can no longer display HTML mail
in VM, which used to work... I'm seeing this error:
Inline HTML display failed: (void-function cl-gethash)
Doing "require 'cl" and "require 'cl-extra" doesn't help, I'm trying
to figure out what's going on.

In any case, I don't use XEmacs so please send a patch for this
