Yes, it really is a very weird design but it seems to be designed on
purpose like this.
If that API would ever change it would of course cause serious
problems again with all programs using XGetWindowProperty() on 64bit,
therefore we will have to live with that strange design forever.
If one calls (get-selection-internal 'PRIMARY 'TARGETS) while some
string is selected in rxvt-unicode, The function XGetWindowProperty is
called twice in XEmacs. The first call is to find out how many bytes
need to be read. XGetWindowProperty() returns "24" in the variable
"bytes_after_return". XEmacs then allocates 24+1 bytes. But that was
not enough because in reality the property array which is returned has
"48" bytes, it consists of six 4 byte values which are padded with 4
extra zeros after each value. It is unbelievably strange but it
really is designed like that. When Takashi found that the wrong usage
of the function XGetWindowProperty causes the problem, I remembered
that I had seen the same problem in some other program years before.
How XGetWindowProperty() works on 64 bit is so strange, it is no
wonder that many programs don't do it right on 64bit. GNU Emacs 21
apparently has the same problem (I have not yet checked in detail and
I have not yet checked whether the problem remains for GNU Emacs 22,
but the behaviour of (x-get-selection-internal 'PRIMARY 'TARGETS) on
GNU Emacs shows the same bug we just fixed for XEmacs).

What spec do you add?

You haven't changed anything, but saving does something?

Problem making bindist of ruby-modes
17 years, 9 months
Asfand Yar Qazi
Hi,
I've decided to take over the task of maintaining the ruby-modes
packages for xemacs, mainly because it'll force me to learn emacs-lisp
so I can customise and work more efficiently with my editor of choice,
but also because there are short-comings in the current ruby-modes
that I really want to fix.
However, my endeavour has not started in a very fruitful manner.
Having checked out the xemacs packages sources from cvs, I cd'ed into
the ruby-modes packages, put the latest versions from Ruby cvs in
place of what was currently there, and typed in 'make bindist'.
Here's what came out:

[Bug: 21.5-b27] Mouse wheel scrolls multiple windows in a frame
17 years, 9 months
Michael Hohmuth
================================================================
Dear Bug Team!
I have set mwheel-follow-mouse to t and run mwheel-install, with the
intent that the mouse wheel scrolls only the XEmacs window that
contains the mouse.
My problem occurs when an XEmacs frame (an X window) displays more
than one XEmacs window (each with one buffer). When the point
(cursor) is positioned in one buffer, but the mouse points to another
buffer, the mouse wheel always scrolls *both* XEmacs windows. (A
third windows that contains neither mouse nor point is not affected.)
This problem is new with the XEmacs version I am currently using (the
version that comes with OpenSUSE 10.2; see system info below). I have
been using this setup with multiple prior versions and never had a
problem before.
Please help!
Kind regards,
Michael

Hi Fabrice, hope you're doing well. :-)
When I encountered this problem last week, I could restore the old
behavior with the patch

Though Stephen will probably tell you that this is the wrong
solution, as it restores another bug. Nevertheless, since I never
encountered the other bug, but have this one regularly, I use this
patch until Stephen comes up with a better solution. Maybe that
works for you as well.
Best,
Joachim

Sorry, didn't get around to testing it. What's the relation of this patch to
the Canna one I sent - should this one render it unnecessary?

the first difficulties in syncr auctex 11.84

Uwe Brauer
Hello
Stephen Turnbull asked me to copy that mail to the list. May somebody
has an idea about the mistake
>>>>> "Mats" == Mats Lidell <matsl(a)contactor.se> writes:
[snip]
Mats> This is not a final solution. It is just a hack with some

Hi Mats,
I tried it out and it did not work. Here is what I did
- Copy all the el files from the main auctex-11.84 directory to
the main directory of the XEmacs-auctex.
- Copy all the style el files into the etc directory.
- copy the preview directory, which contains lisp files, latex and
images into the main XEmacs-auxtex tree.
Here is the structure
auctex : with lisp files such as tex.el etc and the Makefile
auctex/etc : which contains the additionally style lisp files.
auctex/images : not been touched
auctex/preview: lisp files
images: xpm
latex: style files
I tool your makefile
And even make autoloads fails
,----
| make: Circular tex-site.el.out <- tex-site.el dependency dropped.
| cp tex-site.el.out
| cp: missing destination file operand after `tex-site.el.out'
| Try `cp --help' for more information.
| make: *** [tex-site.el.out] Error 1
|
`----
No idea where that destination should be
running make gives the same error.
You did not got that error??
