[Bug: 21.4.21] Bad Window
16 years, 11 months
Rodney Sparapani
================================================================
Dear Bug Team!
For both 21.4.20 and 21.4.21, I've been getting these types of
messages:
X Error of failed request: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)
Major opcode of failed request: 18 (X_ChangeProperty)
Resource id in failed request: 0x680d73
Serial number of failed request: 1242578
Current serial number in output stream: 1242580
This happens when XEmacs is minimized so no data is lost, but it
happens frequently enough to be annoying since you have to
restart XEmacs and open all of your files again. I'm not sure
what else to do here.

[Bug: 21.5-b28] bug in setenv interactive command

Dear Bug Team!
When I use M-x setenv to set my PATH environment variable, I cannot
type the path correctly, i.e. I type '/opt' and when I want to type
another '/', an error message 'Wrong type argument: vectorp...'

Defaulting to the GNU Emacs-derived `sendmail.el' mail client. This
facility,
while part of base XEmacs, is heinously underfeatured, and not going to get
better in the medium term. We include it so that bug reports work without
packages; we suggest that you choose and/or install one of the other mail
clients from packages if you're doing something other than M-x
report-xemacs-bug , or even if you are reporting bugs regularly.
To choose a package from those installed, click on "Options" ->
"Internet" -> "Compose Mail With ..." and decide on one from the
list. Gnus and VM are full-featured and have active user communities.
To disable this warning and stick with the old behavior, you can explicitly
initialize `mail-user-agent' to 'sendmail-user-agent .

Bizarre issue with symbolic links
16 years, 11 months
Benson Margulies
I have 21.5 beta 28 (the last tarball?) install on ubuntu gutsy gibbon
in /opt/xemacs.
It runs fine as /opt/xemacs/bin/xemacs. -- that is, after I installed a
sumo. The package manager refused to run, and README.packages is missing
entirely from that tarball.
If I do:
ln -s /opt/xemacs/bin/xemacs /usr/local/bin
/usr/local/bin/xemacs
I get:
temacs can only be run in -batch mode.
Surely something is jesting with me.

Question about pulling files from repository
16 years, 11 months
robert delius royar
I use CVS to get the latest sources for XEmacs beta. Do I need to
switch to 'hg' to continue getting the latest sources? If so what do I
need to change about my local CVS collection and what commands would I
use? I checked the XEmacs web page about staying up to date, but it
refers only to CVS. But here (xemacs-beta) I see much traffic about
'hg', and the CVS repository files do not look to have changed much in
the last week--only menu-bar.el a few days ago.

Ah, that was significantly more painless than I expected. Thanks!

Autoconf, automake and the trunk.
16 years, 11 months
Aidan Kehoe
The autotools tutorials online say that, to generate configure and so on,
one should run:
$ aclocal && autoconf && automake -a
The last step of that fails for me with:
automake19: no `Makefile.am’ found for any configure output
How do I get around this? My automake is v. 1.9.6, my autoconf is 2.61
though I also have 2.59 available.
(This is relevant to the recent XFT library spelling fix, and another patch
of mine locally.)

XEmacs CVS goes Mercurial
16 years, 11 months
Michael Sperber
If you don't use the XEmacs CVS repository, you can safely ignore this
message.
XEmacs is switching its home for active development from CVS to
Mercurial.
THIS WILL HAPPEN ON THURSDAY, DECEMBER 6.
At that time, we will also set up a mirror from Mercurial to CVS, so,
for the time being you can still use CVS to keep current with the source
code if you wish.
This only affects the core of XEmacs for the time being, and only the
trunk of the CVS. Both the packages and 21.4 development will continue
to live in CVS for the time being.
Location
========
Read-only access will be available here:
http://hg.debian.org/hg/xemacs/xemacs-beta
Commit Access
=============
If you currently have commit access to the XEmacs CVS, but don't have
commit access to the Mercurial repository yet, go to:
http://alioth.debian.org/account/register.php
There, sign up as a user and send me your account name. I'll get you
set up.
Getting Mercurial
=================
Mercurial itself is available here:
http://www.selenic.com/mercurial/wiki/
This online book on Mercurial is a highly recommended resource:
http://hgbook.red-bean.com/hgbook.html
Commit policy
=============
The active developers will commit to a separate "xemacs" repository.
The "xemacs-beta" repository will slightly lag "xemacs"---selected
developers will push changes from "xemacs" to "xemacs-beta" with a delay
of at least 48 hours, and only to the point where there aren't any
immediate serious problems with the changes to be pushed (such as a
review veto or a broken build). Authors of patches that are vetoed are
expected to back them out (via "hg backout").
To facilitate this process, every commit to "xemacs" will trigger an
e-mail to be sent to xemacs-patches(a)xemacs.org, where it can be reviewed
and discussed. These automatic e-mails replace the manual e-mails we
have now. To make sure they fulfill the same purpose, committers are
asked to provide informative ChangeLog entries and commit messsages.
Commit messages may be identical to the ChangeLog entry.
Users without commit access will continue to send patches to
xemacs-patches as currently. Anybody who wishes their patch to receive
review before committing is also welcome to send a patch to
xemacs-patches for discussion."

21.5 Windows jpeg patch
16 years, 11 months
Ron Isaacson
So I just built 21.5.28 for Windows, and noticed that jpeg glyphs fail
with this error:
JPEG parameter struct mismatch: library thinks size is xx, caller
expects yy
Google found several hits, including many on libtiff-related lists
that offer the same fix. A patch is attached. (One such message is
referenced in the patch. I can't take credit for the actual fix, just
the Google->XEmacs transform.)

file-name-sans-extension ?
16 years, 11 months
Uwe Brauer
Hello
I am looking for a function which returns me the name of file without
extension, for example
(file-name-sans-extension "foo.tex")
Should return foo.
It seems that GNU Emacs has such a function but I fail to find one for
xemacs.
