21.4.19 to be released soon

I plan on releasing XEmacs 21.4.19 some time next weekend,
January 6 - 8. As of this morning ET, I have checked in all the
changes that are currently planned to be in the release, so if you
think there's anything missing, you have about a week to let me know.
Please grab the latest 21.4 sources from CVS and build and test the
software. Please send build reports to
xemacs-buildreports(a)xemacs.org.
In anticipation of next week's 21.4.19 release, I have copied a native
Windows setup kit to
ftp://ftp.xemacs.org/pub/xemacs/windows/testing/XEmacs%20Setup%2021.4.19-...
Please download and install this kit if you are interested.
This README file describes the latest setup kit:

This directory holds a Windows-native XEmacs setup kit for the stable
branch of XEmacs, the 21.4 series. The current release is a pre-release
version of 21.4.19. Please download and run 'XEmacs Setup 21.4.19-pre1.exe'
to install the pre-release of XEmacs 21.4.19 on your Windows computer.
(Most places in the kit and the installation will refer to 21.4.18,
but this really is a 21.4.19-pre1 kit.) Report your findings, including
bugs and feature requests, to xemacs-beta(a)xemacs.org.
This setup kit includes a small set of packages:
c-support, cc-mode, debug, dired, ecb, edebug, ediff, edit-utils, efs,
eieio, fsf-compat, mail-lib, net-utils, os-utils, pc, perl-modes,
prog-modes, semantic, sh-script, sounds-wav, speedbar, texinfo,
text-modes, time, xemacs-base and xemacs-devel.

- for information on installing further XEmacs packages to extend the editor's
functionality.

Changes December 26, 2006:
- The default installation directory has been modified to
C:\Program Files\XEmacs.
- The packages are now found automatically under the installed package
tree. The EMACSPACKAGEPATH registry entry is no longer necessary.
- If you previously installed one of the XEmacs 21.4.18 setup kits,
please uninstall that kit before installing the new kit.

Patches that you are submitting for direct application to any of our
distributions (stable, beta, or packages) SHOULD _always_ go to
xemacs-patches. For the core distribution, you SHOULD indicate where
the patch is intended to be applied (stable aka 21.4 or unstable aka
21.5 or both), and if both, which distribution the patch was made
against.
Patches that you are submitting as "proof-of-concept" to facilitate
discussion, but you believe are not ready for prime time as is, SHOULD
go _only_ to xemacs-beta.
For new features and UI changes, you MAY cross-post when you believe
that discussion of the costs and benefits is important, but if the
consensus is that the change is a good one, the patch may be ready to
go as-is. This is your call.

makeinfo fails on many texi files which turn out to be in DOS file format.
>From a quick look at some .texi files in the repository at dotsrc.org
a local issue of my workspace/setup seems to be likely.

[PATCH] 21.4 find packages in ../xemacs-packages at run-time

With this patch, the native XEmacs setup kit can be installed to a
directory of the user's choosing and the packages can be found without
setting the EMACSPACKAGEPATH environment variable.
The idea is that the setup kit will be built with
INSTALL_DIR=c:\Program Files\XEmacs\XEmacs-$(XEMACS_VERSION_STRING)
PACKAGE_PREFIX=c:\Program Files\XEmacs
and the user can choose whatever installation path he/she likes and
the packages will still be found.

I plan to commit this within a few days and generate a pre-21.4.19 kit
for testing. I will also be submitting a 21.5 version of this patch
when I can generate one - my plan is to generate a 21.5 Windows native
