2) Unpack them to: [1]

3) Re-start XEmacs.
Using XEmacs Package Tools (XEmacs 21.[245].x):

1) Tools -> Packages -> Add Download Site -> Pre-Releases
2) Tools -> Packages -> List and Install
3) Select the packages you wish to install (there are brief
instructions at the bottom of the packages buffer).
4) Packages -> Install/Remove Selected
5) Re-start XEmacs.

annoying ms-dos popup windows: further information

I have further information that may help track down the source of this
problem. The SML shell script in question consisted of
#!/bin/sh
<MS-DOS exe> <args> 2>/dev/null
When I removed the re-direct of stderr, the problem disappeared!
Inferior SML mode now works again. However, other MS-DOS binaries (such
as texify.exe from MikTeX) still exhibit the problem.
I have also observed that signals do not appear to be working properly
with inferior modes. In particular sending an interrupt signal causes
emacs to respond in the minibuffer with Kill (nnn, 2) failed: operation
not permitted.

Crash in dir-ed mode when entering into directory twice in a row

When in dired mode, and entering into a subdirectory (by moving cursor
on top of subdirectory entry, and then pressing ENTER), and then
moving yet another level deeper in the same way, emacs crashes
The emacs version used is the one from Redhat's Fedora, version
xemacs-21.4.14-5

xemacs 21.4 crash

The system i have xemacs runnnig is a stock SuSE9.0
The xemacs is part of there distribution
Emacs 21.4 (patch 13) "Rational FORTRAN" [Lucid] (i386-suse-linux, Mule) of Tue Sep 23 2003 on E180
The crash is actualy hard to reproduce and occurs normaly in the first minutes of action. I was unable the create the problem in the debugger nor could i create a core dump.
it help to connect to a remote box and start xemacs there.
1. load file like:
$ xemacs auftrag.tex
2. click on "buffers"
a requester appears to ask for a masterfile !
(NOTE: yep totaly wrong requester !!!)
3. select "cancel"
*crash*

Sometimes on requester comes up inteas the minibuffer in the
last line is open. canceling the request here and the buffer pulldown appears but cant be used. the puldown disapears if an other menu is selected. no crash.

This is a problem I've encountered with several versions of XEmacs.
I run XEmacs with one frame on my real (:0.0) display, and another
frame on a VNC display (:1). I'll work with one for a while, then
switch to the VNC frame (when working remotely) repeatedly.
I run compilations, igrep-find's and cscope searches, and eventually
after switching frames the first one of these that I run crashes XEmacs.

Have you actually checked that the Gnus code no longer uses things
from fsf-compat? Last time I looked, Gnus (and other packages
developed independently or carelessly synched) introduced many subtle
FSF-isms that have gone in unnoticed because fsf-compat was silently
blessed by its inclusion in the SUMOs.
This change in particular is suspicious:

Unless `gpg.el' has changed significantly from the version I have,
this change cannot be correct. gpg.el uses timer functions all over
the place without checking whether they're defined.
You have to either *really* port the file over to XEmacs's API's or
leave the `require', thereby acknowledging the dependence on
`timer.el' and consequently fsf-compat. That's how it works.
