This release fixes a regression in the syntax table support that affects
psgml mode in particular.
* XEmacs 21.4.9 "Informed Management (Windows [3])" is released.
"Informed Management" is the ninth in the OXYMORON series.
XEmacs 21.4.9 "Informed Management (Windows [3])" is the fifth in a
series of MS-Windows focused releases of XEmacs. The intent of this release
series is to provide source and binary distributions of the XEmacs
21.4.x series with any additional fixes or enhancements necessary to
provide a pleasurable editing experience on the MS-Windows platform.
Source is available via cvs at cvs.xemacs.org. This release has the
release tag r21-4-9-3-windows and the most current snapshot will always
have the branch tag windows-21-4.
The binaries for both cygwin and native MS-Windows are available via
the XEmacs netinstaller which can be found at
http://www.xemacs.org/Download/win32/setup.exe This version of the
installer is 1.2.2.11.2.11.

So it turns out that this is caused by the two bad hunks to search.c that
Stephen identified earlier.
Fixing these cures the problem. I will post a patch and rebuild the binaries
today.

Ok, here is my configuration to reproduce the error. I have tested on two
different machines, one is running Windows 2000 and one Windows XP. Both
have the same problem.
I enclosed a file sgml.tar.gz containing my DTDs and ISO-Entries. This is
installed in C:\, so the catalog-file is located in
C:\SGML\docbook\docbook.cat.
I set the environment variable SGML_CATALOG_FILES to
"C:\SGML\docbook\docbook.cat".
I open a new sgml-file "test.sgml" and insert the DTD:
<!DOCTYPE book PUBLIC "-//OASIS//DTD DocBook V4.1//EN" []>
When I try to parse the DTD, the message
"Illegal markup declaration DOCTYPE BOOK PUBLIC "-//OASIS//DTD DOCBOOK
V4.1//EN" []>"
appears. Exapnding tags (C-c C-e) does not work therefore.
The same approach works in emacs-21.2.1 and in xemacs-21.4.8-3 but not in
xemacs-21.4.9-2.
For xemacs, I used psgml-1.31 and for emacs psgml-1.2.5.
I hope, this helps to reproduce the error in your environment.

Upgrading from xemacs-21.4.8-3 to xemacs-21.4.9-2 breaks psgml-mode.
I can no longer parse any DTD. The message:
Illegal markup declaration DOCTYPE BOOK PUBLIC "-//OASIS//DTD DOCBOOK V3.1//EN" []>; at:
appears. I placed a question in xemacs newsgroup and Alastair Rankine
reported, that psgml worked for xemacs-21.4.9 but was broken by xemacs-21.4.9-2.

Dear Bug Team!
For an obscur reason my font are lock to a specifc font and size (too
small of course) when I try to change the font or its size I get this
message
cannot parse current font
If you can help me on that that will be very kind nor to say save my
eyes
The only that I suspect for now that could enter in conflict with
xemacs would be these Microsoft TrueType Core Fonts that someone
install on my system recently.

You're right, I'm getting something similar:

which is strange because I have set the following variables:
(setq sgml-warn-about-undefined-entities nil)
(setq sgml-warn-about-undefined-elements nil)
