I installed 21.4b9 because I want to try latex-preview. It seems 21.4b9 has been stuck at rc1 since May 20. I'd like to see 21.4.9 become the current release so that latex-preview would be easy for xemacs users like me. Any time frame?

[PATCH] New event data types created for --use-kkcc need basic lrecord headers 22 years, 3 months

The new event data objects have lrecord, rather than lcrecord headers. When one of these objects is passed to mark_object in alloc.c a GC Error Checking assertion fails. This failure happens because the basic_p flag is false and the pointer is mis-cast to an lcrecord_header pointer. Defining the lrecord implementation structure for these objects with DEFINE_BASIC_LRECORD_IMPLEMENTATION instead of DEFINE_LRECORD_IMPLEMENTATION causes the basic_p flag to be set to true when the object is allocated. src/ChangeLog addition: 2002-08-12 David Bush <David.Bush(a)intel.com> * events.c: Use DEFINE_BASIC_LRECORD_IMPLEMENTATION instead of DEFINE_LRECORD_IMPLEMENTATION for the new event data objects to cause the objects to be flagged as basic. I have reported recently that 21.4.8 either freezes or exits. I have finally being able to get some error messages for the later. I use X 4.2.0 on i86 Linux. Committing to packages, [A] [PACKAGES (igrep)] Sync to upstream. 22 years, 3 months

I'd say I'm generally fine with these commits, provided that the committer knows *why* the change was made (bug fixes, new cool features etc), uses the package/mode in question, and is available to help out with the possible bugs introduced. Also, the "why" part should be spelled out in the ChangeLog entr(y|ies) or at the very minimum, in the corresponding message to xemacs-patches. The minimum requirements for a commit done by anyone is that the updated package builds, doesn't break the build of any other package, and at least starts up cleanly. In short: No untested, just-for-fun, hit-and-run commits. If you're planning to work on something bigger, let's say an upstream sync of a whole package, I think it would be a good idea to send a note about it to xemacs-beta already in the planning phase. This way we can avoid clashes from many people working on same stuff, and hear about possible problems that an update might cause early. Before committing a sync of some kind, one should inspect the changes made to the XEmacs version after the previous sync, and preserve them unless they're already addressed by the new version. Don't reintroduce old, fixed bugs... If you commit a change to something that there is "upstream" for, be sure also to submit it there if applicable, and mark this with the FORWARD keyword in the message you'll send to xemacs-patches. For example, it isn't be possible for other people to feed your changes to FSF, they won't accept it because the author is the only one who can assign the copyright of the change to them. AFAICT, this is true for all patches. On a side note, I haven't signed any FSF papers. Be also sure to communicate the status of the stuff in question after the change, whether you think it's ready for release, or needs considerable spanking. I and Pete really want to know that. [PATCH] Tentative patch for --use-kkcc on Cygwin 22 years, 3 months

HELP - will not run. 22 years, 3 months

Dear Sirs, I have just built a new system and installed Redhat 7.3 Linux straight out of the box set. I installed all the available KDE/Gnome packages and appear to have everything up an running normally. I wanted to install xemacs for code development and writing latex so I downloaded the latest stable version 21.1.14 and followed all the build instructions. Originally I ran the configure script without any options since most appeared to be auto-detect and the last time I built xemacs on a linux system (about 3 years ago) everything worked fine doing this. Nothing bad was reported so I ran make install as root. This also ran free or any errors and I now have a executable /usr/local/bin/xemacs. I downloaded the efs and xemacs-base packages so that I could get xemacs to install it's own packages directly. I unpacked these into the recommended /usr/local/lib/xemacs/xemacs-packages directory and then proceded to run xemacs for the first time. Unfortunately, I can not run xemacs without it immediately crashing out reporting: > Fatal error (11). Your files have been auto-saved. Use `M-x recover-session' to recover them. .... I seem to have core dumps inhibited on this linux installation and can not work out how to turn the facility back on. Please advise if you know how to do this and I will gladly provide more debug information. I have managed to run ddd on xemacs and it reports: > Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. 0x4031070e in XtInitializeWidgetClass () from /usr/X11R6/lib/libXt.so.6 (gdb) I tried to change a couple of the configure options not least of which was --debug but the problem remains the same.
