Hi, For people not in the loop, I was having dumping temacs.exe problems on Win NT 4.0, SP5. It gave an error stating "Procedure entry for GetLongPathNameW could not be found in KERNEL32". I am using MSVC++ 6.0. I did some real testing and came up with the following results: 1. GetLongPathName is supported ONLY on Win98 and Win 2000. It is NOT supported on NT 2. KERNEL32.DLL has entries corresponding to GetLongPathNameA and GetLongPathNameW 3. For NT, there is a suggested work around (which I guess Andy knows). If not, please refer the URL: http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/2060/articles/longpaths.html 4. I tried loading the DLL thru LoadLibrary and find the function entry point using GetProcAddress on the above 2 methods. It fails. Hence, it is not Xemacs specific problem. I had wrongly reported in my earlier email. I am sorry for misleading (to err is human!). Suggested solution: 1. Use the method suggested in the URL ( Andy, I remember having seen a posting from you during 21.1). This does not depend on specific API calls. This will be more portable across Win platforms. 2. These methods were not used in the Xemacs 21.5.3 version. I wonder what prompted the change. Maybe we could revert. Note: As Adrian had asked my to do a M-x build-reports, I need Xemacs. >From the binary I have, it gives an error. If someone is interested in having the sample test case I wrote to test the methods in the DLL, please write to me and I will send it across. Problem in dumping Xemacs 22 years, 4 months

Hi, I am trying to build XEmacs 21.5.7 on NT 4 SP5 using MSVC++6.0. I had mailed earlier about the error I get in accessing "GetLongPathNameW". I did some extra debugging and found some results. The KERNEL32.DLL does have an entry for "GetLongPathNameW" and "GetLongPathNameA" methods. I wrote a sample code to load the KERNEL32.DLL and get the function address of the above mentioned methods. It succeeds. I am convinced that there is no problem in the KERNEL32.DLL I then checked the "temacs.map" for the entry corresponding to the 2 methods. There are none. Hence there is some problem in the temacs.exe generation. There is also a problem with the "xemacs.mak" at line 1442. The "type" construct used is not found and this gives an error. I had to remove all the lines corresponding to "installation::" downwards "type" to make it compile. Most likely you are using the color-gcc script; probably it has an option or environment variable that allows you to tell it it should colorize even when stdout is not a TTY. Build error - XEmacs 21.5.7 22 years, 4 months

Hi, I just downloaded the beta of Xemacs 21.5.7 and tried building on NT 4.0 using MSVC++ 6.0. I get an error when temacs.exe is getting dumped into xemacs.exe. It throws up an error dialog box with the following contents: "The procedure entry point GetLongPathNameW culd not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll" On the console, the error message is as follows: ------------------ ERROR MESSAGE BEGIN ---------------- WARNING: Compiling without dependency information.
