I should have added that my problem has nothing to do with the recent
thread on "garbage collector infloop in 21.4.9 and 21.5beta4 on MacOS
10.2". It is *not* a stacksize problem. I have set the stacksize to 8192
and even to its maximum of 65536 kbytes, without any effect.
And, although my problem seems to appear in a garbage collection
routine, too, it was not present in 21.5.b4 which builds correctly. It
must be caused by something introduced between beta4 and beta9.

The current XEmacs from CVS has trouble with modes, so I decided to
upgrade some packages to see whether it helps - only to find it isn't
possible to use the Irish mirror site (I didn't try xemacs.org
yet). The ftp conversation is below - it seems that XEmacs does get
the directory listing, but it certainly doesn't show it - the
Tools|Packages|List and Install command ends with "FTP Error: DIR
failed: 500 Unknown command.".

Looks good to me. Adrian, have you checked if this (the patch or the
bug) applies to a recent version of PSGML (1.2.5 or 1.3.0)? We still
have 1.2.2 in XEmacs packages...
1.3.0 alpha is available from
<ftp://ftp.lysator.liu.se/pub/sgml/ALPHA/>.
Any ideas when there will be a new stable version of PSGML? I realize
we need to sync our version to a newer one, but if a new version is just
weeks away, it would be better to sync into it instead of 1.2.5.
This is the main reason I asked the question above about the
applicability to upstream PSGML, I wouldn't want to create unnecessary
diffs this close to a sync. If this patch is needed upstream too, I'm
fine with applying it right away to XEmacs CVS.

Need bbdb, tm, vm build advice

Ok, bbdb and tm are the only ones that fail in packages build smoketest,
the "per-package" build phase. This phase builds each individual
package in its directory in a tree that has experienced a "make
distclean autoloads" from the top (packages/) level.
bbdb build breaks because lisp/bbdb-vm.el has a (require 'vm-autoload).
vm-autoload is a generated file, but it's not generated by "make
autoloads". Perhaps it should be? The patch below seems to fix this
one. I'm not sure how to "append" stuff to makefile targets, but just
kind of "redefining" the autoloads target works for me, ie. the ordinary
autoloads target is executed, and the "overridden" one is executed too,
after it.
After the fix outlined above, bbdb build still breaks, this time saying

Similarly, tm build breaks with:

I don't know how to fix this. Both bbdb and tm correctly REQUIRE vm,
and vm's auto-autoloads has (autoload 'vm "vm-startup" [...]). Yep, 'vm
is provided by vm-version.el, but shouldn't this just work? Please
advise...
Oh, and here's the patch to vm's Makefile. I guess this can be
applied. Note that I haven't yet, and would like to hear comments
before I do.

Dear Bug Team!
Somehow I got into a state where everything I try to do on an HTML page is
getting an error. When I click on the window, move the cursor, anything, I get
the following error:

[PATCH] jde build problems [2]

This resolves the jde build problems and includes the ReleaseNotes.txt in
the kit doc dir.
Another kit needs to be built using this patch asap.

The patch works correctly, but there seems to be an unrelated
problem. On this platform, there's a crash at startup in X11. The
comments in PROBLEMS don't seem to help. I'll try to look into this
further, but I won't be able to look at it for another week or so, as
I'm currently away from my workstation (gee, where have we heard this
before? ;-().
At this point, I don't think it matters if the patch stays or goes,
as XEmacs doesn't seem to work under HP-UX 11.11i.

I am seing the problem described in the lisp comments of

Is this a knows problem?
Customizations of sgml-validate-command and sgml-declaration seem to
get overwriten in xml-mode.
