XEmacs 21.4 (patch 4) "Artificial Intelligence" [Lucid] (sparc-sun-solaris2.8,
Mule) of Sun Jul 29 2001
Installed successfully. One glitch, ut does not accept my current athena lib (it
accepted by prev. version and by 21.5.2)
Error: Could not find a suitable Athena library to build with.
It worked when I removed --with-dialogs=athena.
Gauge problem does not seem to be fixed. It is on 21.5.2.
Yeah and the same problem when visiting a file from the speedbar - gauge is
attached to its frame. Not very good looking ....

Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug:
(X)Emacs creates ".saves*" to record some information (I'm not sure
what). The difference is that Emacs creates a name that ends in "~"
while XEmacs does not. The "~" in the name makes it easier to collect
and delete these files using dired-flag-backup-files. Could XEmacs
change to use this convention?

ive noticed that configure.usage has not been updated to include the new options for configure
i use adrians build package and it relies on that file (i think) for its customise options
can this file be updated in 21.4 and 21.5 please ??

while packaging XEmacs 21.4.4 I ran into some difficulties because:
1. datadir and libdir do not work like described in the documentation:
I am running ./configure with `--datadir=/usr/share --libdir=/usr/lib'.
INSTALL indicates that the directories
| /usr/lib/xemacs-21.4.4/<architecture>
| /usr/share/xemacs-21.4.4/lisp
| /usr/share/xemacs-21.4.4/etc
will be created. Indeed the <architecture> dir will be created under
the datadir
| /usr/share/xemacs-21.4.4/<architecture>
This means the --libdir behavior or the INSTALL-file is wrong
2. mandir is being set in an unusual manner:
The FHS requires to put man-pages under /usr/share/man. Therefore I
have to change the mandir variable under Linux. XEmacs defines it in
the Makefile.in.in as
| mandir=＠mandir＠
| manext=.1
and in configure.in as
| mandir='${prefix}/man/man1'
This is redundantly (when moving pages from section 1 to section x,
both manext and mandir must be changed) and unusually for GNU/Linux[1]
Although it is not absolutely necessarily to fix this, I have attached
a patch changing the mandir-behavior.
3. Common ./configure scripts understand more options:
./configure scripts following the GNU/Linux standard understand
options like --sbindir, --libexecdir, --sysconfdir...
Supporting these options (without an action behind) makes it more
easy to build XEmacs with general rules. Current XEmacs fails to
build with them.

BUG: File mode specification error and browse-url-browser-function setting

Hi
There is a bug when assigning a list of pairs to browse-url-browser-function and trying
to open an html file. I just recently changed its value from a function which according
to the documentation is possible.
I get the following error:

File mode specification error: (wrong-type-argument symbolp (("^mailto:" . browse-url-mail) ("." . browse-url-netscape)))
Loading psgml-parse...
Loading psgml-parse...done
Any hints ?
