For example, if the "desktop" package is loaded in init.el and this leads to opening a html file, XEmacs will query the user for his e-mail-address, although this e-mail-address is already stored in custom.el (but custom.el is not yet loaded). Then, XEmacs will offer to save the e-mail-address for future sessions. If one makes the mistake of answering 'y', all customizations will be overwritten, because custom.el was not read yet, therefore XEmacs knows of no customizations besides the e-mail address just entered. It will then write out a custom.el containing *only* this e-mail-address, deleting everything else. ^M in search-buffers.el 23 years, 4 months

Steve, Thanks for the new package organization. I think it's a lot clearer. I just tried to build all the packages for the first time in awhile, and in the edit-utils package I got the following error: While compiling toplevel forms in file /usr/local/build/xemacs-packages-2001-07-04/xemacs-packages/edit-utils/search-buffers.el: !! End of stream ((#<buffer " *Compiler Input*">)) When I looked at the file, it seems that every line is terminated with ^M. Since I am trying to build with a non-Mule XEmacs, the ^Ms confuse the byte compiler. I could submit a patch if you want. Just let me know. - vin

ilisp-1.19-pkg.tar.gz is in Pre-Releases, go get 'im. XEmacs crash on sparc-sun-solaris2.5.1 on startup inside X 23 years, 4 months

Built with gcc-2.95.3. Building worked, last month, but now a newly built XEmacs dies on startup. As far as I know nothing has changed on the Sun box in question --- but I am not root so things may have changed on it without my knowledge), boom. I've turned virtually everything off and it still happens. JDE depends on several other packages which you also must install.
