Warning! dired may be following symlinks during recursive rm ! 24 years, 1 month

I had a "test-config" directory where I ran configure, and a build failed... then I used `dired' to rm it, said yes to the "recurse" question. Now the contents of <xemacs checkout>/etc/* are gone. This has happened before and I think it's dired doing it.

[COMMIT] Redisplay preemption patch 24 years, 1 month

I am committing the following change to the main trunk. After some preliminary testing, it appears to be non-fatal when swallowed, and speeds up redisplay a lot. Hoewever, lots of code might already rely on the current behavior, so please watch for display glitches this may cause. hi Recently I installed xemacs on my computer. I am using a win 98 and want the windows short cut keys for cut copy and paste to work. I found CUS-mode.el does this. but also found that this only works in emacs . AndI want to use Xemacs . is there a similar thing in xemcas. etags infloop 24 years, 1 month

I'm using etags for the first time in a long while, and it has an infinite loop buffer-tag-table-list. tags-check-parent-directories-for-tag-files is at its default setting of t so etags goes up the parent directories as expected. It does this by running (expand-file-name ".." cur). When cur is "/", (expand-file-name ".." cur) returns "/..". Then (expand-file-name ".." cur) returns "/" and we continue around again. Perhaps the check should look for cur equal to "/" and stop? (What about Windows machines?) Ray

Syntax Highlighting Problem 24 years, 1 month

Hello, Please forgive me, I'm rather new at using Xemacs (21.1 on SunOS) so it is most likely that my question has a simple answer. I code primarilly in Perl and for some reason one of my scripts will not fontify and the syntax will not highlight when I open it using Xemacs. What baffels me is that this one script is the only one out of dozens of scripts with problems. Also, this problem has only come up recently. I'm wondering if there is any possible way that a bad keystroke or bad combination of keystrokes in the script could cause problems when Xemacs scans the code? The code is >7000 lines long and I just went through and made some major revisions, so finding something which I don't know what to look for would be tough. I've messed around with the Syntax Highlight options and nothing seems to correct the problem short of rewriting the code. If you have any thoughts on this I'd greatly appreciate as I'm too much of a rookie to know what else to do. cvs-work-backup : Helper script - run it from crontab. 24 years, 1 month

Attached - freshest version (barring disaster) will always be at: CVSROOT=:pserver:anoncvs＠cvs.hegbloom.net:/var/cvs/debian cvs checkout cvs-toolkit/cvs-work-backup I run this from my .crontab every few hours, like this: 00 0-23/3 * * * /usr/local/bin/cvs-work-backup --backup-dir /home/karlheg/Backup /usr/local/src/Packages/xemacs/{debian.xemacs,debian.xemacs-packages,xemacs-packages,xemacs-21.4,xemacs-21.5} It helps bulletproof me against command line typos and cleanfreak makefile targets, and perhaps against the `dired' follows symlinks bug. With that one, with a recent archive created by this thing, I can just restore that archive and cvs update to recover. Please let me know how it works for you, etc. I hope that the XEmacs repository has a good backup system! What is used there? I am curious about such things.

When I try to update package index (running from 21.1.11 solaris) I get: (1) (error/warning) Error in process filter: (ftp-error FTP Error: CWD 550 /pub/xemacs/packages/package-index.LATEST.pgp/: Not a directory. failed: ) The problem seems to be that efs insists that the package index file is a directory instead of a file, and gets an error when it trys to download the index. (package-get-locate-index-file nil) ==> "/anonymous＠ftp.sunsite.utk.edu:pub/xemacs/packages/package-index.LATEST.pgp" -jeff

XEmacs 21.[45] + Oort Gnus 0.03 + Filladapt 2.12: Inf loop 24 years, 1 month

(now put the cursor on this text and press) M-q XEmacs enters an infinite loop which cannot be broken with C-g. For the ding list: Oort v0.03 and filladapt don't work together under Cygwin XEmacs. This problem does not exist in 5.8.8. For the xemacs-beta: It would be really nice if C-g broken out of the loop. I realize that this may not be possible, though. Further details o Cygwin 1.3.1, most recent version of everything o Oort Gnus v0.03 o xemacs-21.4.3 and xemacs-21.5-b1, up-to-date with pre-release packages.
