turning off gutters doesn't really turn off gutters 23 years, 10 months

In XEmacs 21.2 (beta33) "Melpomene" [Lucid] (sparc-sun-solaris2.7) of Wed May 3 2000 on rhea configured using `configure --prefix=/export/users/hamishm/xemacs --site-prefixes=/export/users/hamishm/gnome:/export/users/hamishm --pdump --with-athena=xaw --with-menubars=lucid --with-scrollbars=lucid --with-dialogs=athena --with-widgets=athena --with-dragndrop=no --with-tooltalk=no' cvs-upped May 3, 15:50 EDT (Canada). I turn off gutter-tabs using the options menu (Options, Gutters, Buffer tabs visible), and save options (another bug report coming on that too..). When I restart XEmacs, the *gutter tabs are back*. The radio-button in the menu is still off. Quite annoying, given that the gutters are regularly crashing my XEmacs. >From my .custom file: ... '(gutter-buffers-tab-visible-p nil) ... `gutter-buffers-tab-visible-p' is a variable declared in Lisp. -- loaded from "/export/users/hamishm/archive/xemacs-21.2/lisp/gutter-items.elc" Value: nil Documentation: Whether the buffers tab is globally visible. This option should be set through the options menu.

can't compile xemacs 21.2.39 with --with-xfs --with-xim=no 23 years, 10 months

RFC: Public Release Scheduled for March 1, 2001 23 years, 10 months

The XEmacs Review Board has approved targeting a release for March 1, 2001, based on the code currently in the 21.2 tree. That's all that's official at this point. Everything else is more or less still open for debate. Please debate! xemacs-beta will be the primary forum for discussion of release plans. The next steps: We will make a public announcement of the release target and major features on comp.emacs.xemacs, comp.emacs, and the XEmacs home page probably in a week or ten days. I'm the Release Manager pro tem, and will probably be confirmed in that role shortly, unless a more qualified volunteer steps forward. (Don't be shy!) bug reports for 21.2.b37 23 years, 10 months

Hi, I assumed that the bug database on the web site is for stable version and that I should submit bugs for the betas here, please tell me if I'm wrong. - in the customize screens, some buttons are displayed as text (the text doesn't fit in the button btw), see xemacs_buttons.png attached. This also happens for the button "Stop" when "fontifying" is displayed when you open a file. - the button "Done" on such a screen closes the active buffer instead of killing its own buffer. - sometimes there is a blank area next to the tabs, see xemacs_tabs.png. It looks like the tabs zone is not refreshed correctly when the window is resized beyond a specific width. - The commands below the "package" menu gives "Wrong type argument! stringp, nil", I didn't configure any package option. - fontifying uses fonts, though I have in custom.el '(font-lock-use-fonts nil), and Options/Syntax Highlighting/Fonts is indeed not checked, I must reselect the already checked option Options/Syntax Highlighting/Colors to remove the fonts. uname -a is "SunOS chaplin 5.6 Generic_105181-05 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-1" Here is the configure script I used, with gcc 2.95.2 (I had a bunch of warnings from the X librairies) ./configure \ --prefix=/users/tesio \ --with-x11 \ --with-menubars=lucid \ --with-scrollbars=lucid \ --with-dialogs=athena \ --with-gif=no \ --with-sound=no \ --with-database=no \ --memory-usage-stats \ --with-gcc \ --with-sparcworks \ --site-libraries="/usr/openwin/lib /usr/dt/lib /users/tesio/lib/X11 /users/tesio/lib" \ --site-includes="/users/tesio/lib /users/tesio/include /users/tesio/lib/X11" \ --x-includes=/usr/openwin/share/include \ --x-libraries=/usr/openwin/lib \ --with-sparcworks \ --error-checking=none \ --with-xpm \ --with-png Thanks for reading ! bug(?) with window configurations (second try) 23 years, 10 months

Briefly, my problem is: with XEmacs 21.2-b35, it seems that the function 'set-window-configuration changes the point, and I don't think it should. In detail (and I posted this before, with no response): I have some code that does this: ;; start with the point in window 1. (setq bozo (current-window-configuration)) ... ;; do stuff that puts the point in the minibuffer, and also opens up ;; window 2, leaving both windows 1 and 2 visible ... (set-window-configuration bozo) In XEmacs 21.1.12 and GNU Emacs, the end result would be that the window 2 would go away, and the point would remain in the minibuffer. In XEmacs 21.2-b35, window 2 goes away, but the point also jumps back to window 1. I think this is in contradiction with the documentation for current-window-configuration, which says Documentation: Return an object representing the current window configuration of FRAME. If FRAME is nil or omitted, use the selected frame. This describes the number of windows, their sizes and current buffers, and for each displayed buffer, where display starts, and the positions of point and mark. An exception is made for point in the current buffer: its value is -not- saved. Note the last sentence. Because of this, set-window-configuration shouldn't change the point. This looks like a bug to me, or was this behavior changed intentionally, and the documentation not updated? -- John H. Customize display bug 23 years, 10 months

Here's a simple display bug that is 100% reproducible for me. In Gnus v5.8.7, press G c to customize any desired group, mail or news. When the window comes up, resize xemacs so that the Done widget button is just on the right edge of the window. Then the button continuously flashes. A rather annoying feature. Fortunately, I don't do this often. Ray
