Intent to implement Emacs 20 find-file-literally 24 years, 7 months

Is there some reason we did not implement this? Is this function perhaps ideologically blasphemous? Kirill, you deleted the related function find-file-binary, but it's used in hexl.el. I intend to implement find-file-literally, and use it in hexl.el. Martin

How about a new XEmacs logo? 24 years, 7 months

This is, of course, not a very important issue, or something that (technical) people really care about, but for now I can only help the XEmacs development in this area. I wanted to propose my idea of a new XEmacs logo. Currently I have nothing specific in mind on how that new logo should look like -- I just dislike the old one. The biggest problem with the existing logo is it's transparency. Many people have background color other than default gray and that is one of the reasons why those dislike the logo. I am one of them - I use DarkSlateGray background. You can see how ugly it turns out by visiting XEmacs Beta section of xemacs.org. Also I personally dislike the italic font. In my opinion italic font can only spoil a title or a logo. The very sharp and dark shadow doesn't fit at all. It is too unrealistic to add something to the logo. You might of course disagree with me here, but I don't think people say "wow" about the existing logo. Neither does it reflect the functionality of XEmacs... or it's beauty :-) How old is the existing logo? So, I would like to suggest to make some alternative logos and choose the best one for the upcoming versions. Maybe we should make it a contest, I don't know. Debian people solved their "problem" that way... I took the initiative myself and created one. It can be found at http://dreamer.nitro.dk/linux/xemacs/screenshot.png. It should be considered merely as a suggestion and not necessary something I really want to see in the next versions of XEmacs. I encourage other people to make logos that are better than the existing one, and mine as well. [FAILURE] 21.2.32 24 years, 7 months

I can't build CVS version of XEmacs 21.2 because of new PostgreSQL header searching. My environment is as follows: Debian woody XEmacs 21.2 latest CVS PostgreSQL 7.0-0.beta3-1 Error message is: In file included from /src/xemacs/src/postgresql.c:106: /usr/include/postgresql/libpq-fe.h:27: postgres_ext.h: No such file or directory make[1]: *** [postgresql.o] Error 1 make: *** [src] Error 2 /usr/include/postgresql/libpq-fe.h has #include <postgres_ext.h> and /usr/include/postgrespl/postgres_ext.h exists. installation bug? 24 years, 7 months

To whom it may concern: I have installed xemacs-21.1.9 on a sparc solaris2.6 network, and upon execution of xemacs, I get the following error: Wrong lemacs version ("XEmacs 21.1 (patch 9) \"Canyonlands\" [Lucid] (sparc-sun-solaris2.6) of Tue Apr 4 2000 on mrhand"). The LSE requires version 19.11 of lemacs LSE intializaion failed. After clicking "OK" in this dialogue box, xemacs dies. I cannot find any documentation on "LSE". Can you shed some light on this. FYI, I get the same error when I download a pre-compiled 21.1.3 version versus this version which I compiled from source. Regards, Justin Denison
