redisplay-tty.c improvements 24 years, 8 months

All, redisplay-tty.c still uses termcap. In most modern UNIX varaints, terminfo is availible, and on those systems where both are availible, the terminfo databases are frequently more up to date than the termcap file. It would be trivial to start using terminfo, and to be able to fall back on termcap if terminfo cant work for a given system. I did just this thing for the EPIC IRC client, and it works well. One of the other advantages of terminfo is that you can use more than two parameters to any given capability. You can only do that in termcap if you roll out own tparam(). There are a few capabilities of great use that use more than 2 parameters, most notably the wind cap. In the current redisplay stuff we get the scrolling region (csr) cap but dont ever use it, and we dont even retrieve the wind cap. Both of these can be used to speed up redisplay dramatically on a TTY, and I would like to make such improvements. However, the redisplay stuff seems to be a feared piece of code and folks are loathsomet o change it. So, before I go do a whole bunch of work, does anyone have comments, questions or suggestions? Progress gauge weirdity 24 years, 8 months

This is weird. While the font-lock is running with the new progress gauge things, events seem to be picked up. Even stranger, they get picked up in the wrong order, and they fuck up the work of the progress gauge. So, if I press `a b c' while font-lock is running, "cba" is inserted into the buffer when the font-locking is done. Also, the warnings buffer says: (42) (warning/warning) Error caught in `font-lock-pre-idle-hook' Andy, what could be going on?

[BUG] Focus problem in 21.2 24 years, 8 months

I don't know exactly when this appeared (recently), but the latest 21.2 on my debian woody system has the following focus problem: - start XEmacs -vanilla - M-x customize-variable (anything) - edit the value - click on the SET button Now, the keyboard focus is lost. [Crash] XEmacs 21.2.31 (yesterday's CVS) in W3 24 years, 8 months

Well, it's rare that I get a crash (obviously not a good beta tester then) but I CVS updated yesterday. I updated my packages for the first time in ages, and (going for the kill) installed W3. Clicking on the URL http://www.masonhq.com/ in a mail message (under VM) sent xemacs to coresville. I saw a new frame appear, a "looking up host" message appear (I think), and possibly a progress bar, too. (I really am sorry that I'm so vague). (Mind you, I do have Options->Internet->Open URLs With->Netscape, so why it chose W3 is another matter). Gutters are nice in 21.2.31, still i found something ... 24 years, 8 months

How to reproduce: put the following lisp code in a file and load it at startup, say xemacs -vanilla -l /tmp/tmp.el What i get at the first glance looks as expected: awful underlined italic in red on black (huh), but the buffers tab is unstable!. What do i mean -- any key press in XEmacs, some unreproducible mouse clicks outside(!) XEmacs cause tabs to disappear. The following behavior is unpredictable -- they might appear, then disappear again, and so on. Here are two screen shots -- the first is just after startup, the second -- after inserting the phrase "Where are the gutters?". The tabs disappeared just after pressing W. Moreover, the first screenshot is a kind of trick -- i had to start gimp, then invoke screenshot, using alt-tab switch to terminal, start xemacs and then "shoot" it.
