Database support 24 years

Hi! On my system XEmacs 21.2 (beta35) "Nike" [Lucid] (i386-unknown-freebsd3.3) of Tue Aug 22 2000 on lamia.LF.net (describe-installation) shows me Databases: Compiling in support for Berkeley database. Compiling in support for GNU DBM. but I see (setq db (open-database "/var/db/locate.database" 'berkeley_db 'hash "r")) => Unsupported database type: berkeley_db So, what das 'Compiling in support for Berkeley database.' really mean. Am I missing something? Thanks, norbert.

Getting wrong-number-of-arguments windows-of-buffer in XEmacs-21.2-b36 24 years

I've seen this happen randomly off and on since I started using xemacs-21.2-b36 but in trying to track it down today, I started a second instance of XEmacs on a different server than I normally do and got a tooltalk error on startup. The tooltalk error was normally but it triggered the following as soon as I tried to open a file at the splash screen: (1) (tooltalk/warning) Warning: unable to connect to a ToolTalk server. (2) (error/warning) error: (wrong-number-of-arguments windows-of-buffer 3) (3) (error/warning) error: (wrong-number-of-arguments windows-of-buffer 3) (4) (error/warning) error: (wrong-number-of-arguments windows-of-buffer 3) (5) (error/warning) error: (wrong-number-of-arguments windows-of-buffer 3) I had debug-on-error set so I got the following lisp traceback: Signaling: (wrong-number-of-arguments windows-of-buffer 3) windows-of-buffer(#<buffer "*Warnings*"> nil t) display-warning-buffer() This is repeatable. Once I get this error, I cannot clear it. Any keyboard or mouse activity causes another error. Patch for comint.el ??? 24 years

Hi, this is a request for a slight change to comint.el. Suggestion for futher releases 24 years

Hi After spending much time customising XEmacs for my company, i've come across some points where XEmacs could be greatly improved. Much more can be done here thqan in most editors. Great. But it's hard to find out how. There is much help to be fould, but as with all learning it is easier if there are examples. Take popup-dialog-box for example. If there was a good example of how to use it, it would be simple to use, but right now it you must have knowledge of the way many other aspects of XEmacs LISP works to use the help. Not many people want to spend time learning everything. Good examples are needed. The other (perhaps the greatest drawback) is that the responce time via X11 is big. I don't know if this can be improved, but it is annoying. Still I think i'll be using XEmacs for a very long time. So thanks are in order. Michael Werliin PDK, Legacy Access

Yes, I do now remember that I copied hebrew.el from my FSF Emacs leim directory to my xemacs leim directory. When I try C-u C-\ TAB, I do get the choice "hebrew". When I select it, I get no error message, but my input does not change (indeed, I tried it at the beginning of this sentence). The various latin-* methods work fine, as do the cyrillic methods and ipa. I did try installing hebrew and miscellaneous other fonts from FSF's intlfonts, and this made no difference. Incidentally if I try "load-file" of .../emacs/20.7/lisp/language/hebrew.elc, as Steven Turnbull suggests, I get the error message: "Wrong number of arguments: #<subr make-coding-system>, 6".
