So at least it possible in someway. Effectively it has to be done anyway in the future to upgrade the elisp engine to something more modern (whatever language or variant that is). Jan

To avoid memory leaks, you would have to make Emacs increase refcounts of Python object, and make Python an alternative "root of accessibility" for Emacs' mark-and-sweep. I'm not sure if this is doable. The guys who made Emacs-Perl failed on this one, IIRC.

I had to hack together some elisp code today. I'll have to admit, I rarely venture there and don't know my way around very well. Lately I've been more interested in using Python for those quick scripts. The thought occurs - it's easy to embed a python interpreter into any C program. Emacs is a C program. I wonder if that would be useful? I suppose you'd have to make wrappers to interface the elisp with python if it was to be really useful. Just a thought.

package update failures 25 years, 9 months

I have 2 linux systems, and both had the same failure when I tried to update packages: Removing directory: Directory not empty, /usr/local/lib/xemacs/xemacs-packages Removing old files for package "tm" ... Validating checksum for `tm'... > nonymous＠ftp.xemacs.org:/pub/xemacs/packages/tm-1.17-pkg.tar.gz to /tmp/...done Restarting the update, it seemed to complete normally. 21.2b11
