I agree that it's not worth any risk, but it does make me blink. What options are there? If we can't read, or decompress GIFs, how about on the fly conversion to another image format such as PNG?

someone please verify leak in file_name_completion 26 years, 4 months

Hello, Can someone look at file_name_completion and file_name_completion_unwind in dired.c and tell me if the following conclusion is correct: - file_name_completion allocates a cons with noseeum_cons() - if no error occurs, the cons' car is reset to Qnil - we unwind and file_name_completion_unwind is called. the car is Qnil so we return and the cons is never freed. (I'm assuming that noseeum_cons are not GC'd) this means we leak a cons on every file completion. maybe no big deal but i'll fix it if someone verifies that i'm correct. greg

Of course, if you POP it, then you would have a harder time (unless you could fetchmail it (into procmail)). > Or is this a dumb thing to do? Not neccessarily. The problem is that there's no way to tell gnus *not* to erase /var/spool/mail/you when it retrieves mails. I don't know about vm. So the thing would be tricky: I think you'd be oblidged to always use Gnus to retrieve *all* mails, and tell it to store xemacs-beta mails in a special place, and the rest in a standard unix folder (using the nnfolder backend I believe). If you create the .Z files on, say, a Solaris box, wouldn't that be legally safe? Presumably Unisys has already made Sun pay up for compress. Of course, displaying them legally might be a problem without GIFreader. Just bite the bullet and convert all .Z stuff to PNG. Hmm, what about all of the tar files? Ray
