Well, in the context of our policy, I'd say it is unavoidable. Even
if our policy were different, the change should be made in VM, not the
core.
If it prevents solving this problem, we should change our policy. And
XEmacs’ defaults are XEmacs’ business, not the packages’. I, at least, would
swear energetically at MH-E, if installing it overrode the default mail
sending package _as it is described in the manual._ And of course, then you
have the problem of conflicting package-dependnt defaults.
