That's not the same as emacsen currently in use, especially GNU Emacs
which has a rather draconian approach to "support" (nothing except the
last public release is considered "supported", although you get the
best support for current CVS ;-). The problem is that all of
emacs-minor-version, emacs-patch-version, and emacs-beta-version are
post-v19 innovations IIRC. In particular I believe that there are
some v19 versions (at least) which will throw an "unbound variable"
error on emacs-minor-version. (I still have an old 386SX-50 in
service as a router with XEmacs 19.14 on it! Not that I even have EFS
installed there, space is that tight. :-)
May I suggest a feature that might be generally useful, which is to
special-case the arch-style version string, and provide that regexp in
SXEmacs's core? Then protect it with a boundp test, which would allow
use in Dired and EFS generically.
