I couldn't test inference with Shift-JIS and BIG5 detection as I don't have test files with these encodings. [PATCH] packages: Avoid losing locally-added CVS files on vc-next-action-on-file 18 years

I've been running with the set-buffer-file-coding-system for months to handle my CVS-controlled files, like .bbdb.gpg. The second part is rather new and fixes previously reported breakage where newly added CVS files would be reverted before first being commited, which consequently deletes the file from disk! [COMMIT] NEWGC: handle memory shortage 18 years

NOTE: This patch has been committed. Usually, mc-alloc allocates large blocks of memory ("heap sections") from the operating system and manages these sections. If memory becomes short, such large blocks may not be available. What then usually happens, is that XEmacs prints "memory full" in a loop. With this patch, the allocator is informed about memory shortage and then allocates only the needed pages and no larger blocks. This may keep XEmacs alive until the garbage collector can free enough memory and recovers from the memory exhaustion. [AC21.5] Make {en,de}code-coding-region interactive 18 years

APPROVE COMMIT 21.5 Mostly a personal convenience in practice, but I think it's a useful interface at times, similar to Gnus "washing" but useful outside of the MUA. The similar base64-{de,en}code-region are interactive. I've had this in my miscellaneous workspace for years, and it's the only one left now. APPROVE 21.5 Will commit in a few days if there is no objection. Vin, I don't know about implications for 21.4; I'll try to remember to check before I commit. I'd especially like feedback from people on the Windows platform; Adrian had some trouble which I don't know was ever identified with a patch to similar code in lstream.c. [AC21.5] Consolidate random historical docs into Internals 18 years

APPROVE COMMIT 21.5 Not for 21.4. This patch cleans up some random junk in the project top directory, by moving the contents of the files into the Internals manual. For now I've only checked that the Info manuals build (to avoid breaking "make all"), and I'll be doing a little more cleanup later. This patch is not really intended to be applied by patch(1), because it makes non-trivial changes to ChangeLogs. (That's because they referred to CHANGES-ben-mule; they now point to the appropriate node in the Internals manual.)
