Thank you for your support!
According to Mike this is a normal feature of Mercurial. Over on
xemacs-beta I'm trying to convince him it is a BadThang[tm]. Your
posts will help.
Is this a merge to your private

It's the merge between the changes Stephen made, and the other changes
made since the revision Stephen started form. CVS couldn't express
this, since you could only apply to the head revision, but with
Mercurial, it's different. Normally, it's nothing to worry about.

My strategy is to pull everything that's at least 48 hours old and
hasn't been objected to, and only if I can build and start once that
state. It's mostly a safeguard to prevent badly breaking the build for
xemacs-beta users. I don't think cherry-picking is necessary at this
point---that would be a lot more work.
It'll be easier to track once we can bake the Mercurial changeset id
into xemacs_extra_name. I'm working on it, but having trouble breaking
into Windows.

Stephen - what is this message? Is this a merge to your private
workspace? I got confused into thinking you had promoted Jerry's
change to the XEmacs-beta repository, but that's not the case, right?
Please arrange not to send personal commit messages to the
xemacs-patches list, it confuses this programmer of very small brain.
On a separate (but perhaps related) topic, Michael - how do you
propose to track when you (or I or anyone) promote changesets from the
hg xemacs repository to the hg xemacs-beta repository? Ideally a
follow-up message to the original PATCH/COMMIT message similar to what
I send for 21.4 patches should be sent, but if sending a non-followup
message is easier to automate, then lets do that. Either way, there
needs to be some message sent to XEmacs-patches for each commit to the
hg xemacs-beta repository.
BTW, in retrospect, "xemacs" is a bad name for the repository, I think
"xemacs-experimental" or "xemacs-bleeding-edge" would be a more
accurate name.
Regards,
Vin

Rework init-file migration
17 years
Michael Sperber
Hopefully, this will address the complaints we've been getting. Will
apply Friday if nobody objects.
2007-12-19 Mike Sperber <mike(a)xemacs.org>
* startup.el (user-init-file-migration-in-order-p): Factored out
check.
(maybe-migrate-user-init-file):
(migrate-user-init-file): Don't do a backup of ~/.emacs anymore.
Instead, make only a manual adjustment of the file, if at all,
i.e. don't go through customize magic anymore.
(unmigrate-user-init-file): Don't use customize to set
`load-home-init-file' anymore.
(set-load-home-init-file): Add; performs the modification
previously done through customize.
(unmigrate-user-init-file): Use `set-load-home-init-file' instead
of customize.
(command-line-1): Only wait for the first event if we're not going
to ask about migration.
